Time for a 2021 thread? UH will be bringing in new players for the 2022 season (Washington, Puerto Rico, overseas) A few might be signing during spring period. 2021? Or 2022? Won't they be having the same guys back in 2021 with the exception of Dimi?

From his statement looks like the kid is moving eastward. He mentioned he will visit schools in the east, Midwest and southwest but nothing about staying in the West. The kid looks like he got some pretty impressive hops but I think Hawaii is pretty jam pack at OH for the next few years. I would like to see a couple of impact MBs in the mold of Pat Gasman come here. Only Voss comes highly touted. Rosenfeld, Wong, Todd does not make me feel good about our MB depth. Rosenfeld have stepped up his game and have impressed but he’s not in Gasman’s class.

So we did get Cole. Dang..... the battle for PT on the outside in 2022 is going to be intense. Chaz, Spyros, Makua, Kanai, Filip, and now Cole. One thing I do like about this kid is he already can touch 11-5.
Still hoping for a couple of monster middles.

Question about the schedule for Hawaii this year in regards to traveling....teams coming to Hawaii....UH traveling and playing many teams abroad? I know most of the schools are still putting schedules together as this season is ever-changing but wondering if anyone has any inside track info.

A good way to go is to put on tournaments. That way you can get 4 teams in one place and get 3 matches in. If Hawaii play in 3 tournaments, that is nine matches right there. The men’s will be title contenders so I think they will should be able to host a couple or three tournaments and bring quality teams here.
I don’t see many teams really interested in flying all the way here just for 2 matches against UH but if you can put a tournament with good teams, it will be a worthwhile to fly out here and face 3 different teams.
I would like to see the BW and MSPF get together and form one league where everybody play each other. That way they can get enough matches in. The EIVA and the MIVA can do the same.

Idk if you guys saw on Danny's IG, but he's transferring out. Big blow to our shallow middle depth.

From Cindy Luis' blog: "Play ball? That is the expectation for men’s volleyball this coming year. Although the Big West last week cancelled its women’s competition that had been postponed in fall, the plan is that the men’s season will go on as scheduled for spring … although possibly not until March for Hawai'i. “We’ve had some discussions at the conference level and all systems are a go as of now,” Warriors coach Charlie Wade said on Wednesday. “Everyone ‘intends’ to have a men’s season. “The question is about non conference. The (Big West) model that is being used for basketball is, once you begin conference play, you don’t break the ‘conference bubble’ and introduce non-conference teams into the bubble. The assumption is volleyball will do the same.” To that end, Hawai’i is expected to open conference play at CSUN in mid-March. Coincidently that is the same schedule and opponent as last March when the Warriors had arrived in California to play at Northridge to start Big West play. The matches with the Matadors were cancelled and the dominoes began to fall. The remainder of 2020 was wiped out, a nation-wide eligibility freeze put in place that gave all players an extra year, with the plan that men’s volleyball would resume in spring. The Warriors’ conference schedule remains the same with road matches at CSUN and UC Santa Barbara, and home matches with UC San Diego, Long Beach State and UC Irvine. The biggest change is the Big West Tournament site, which was a rotation basis and set last season for UC Irvine. Likely to be announced sometime this week is that Hawai’i will host the tournament in April, the second time after hosting in 2019. The other change that has yet to be approved is, given the potential lack of opponents, that Big West teams would play each other three times, two that would count as conference matches and one as a non-conference. The Warriors’ first home match would be, just like it was scheduled for 2020, against UC San Diego in late March. “The question is, will there be some capacity for fans,” Wade said. Hawai’i expects to return most of the team that was 14-0 and ranked No. 1 heading into the the weekend series with No. 2 Brigham Young at the Stan Sheriff Center. The teams split the series, the Cougars in a sweep on March 5 and the Warriors winning an epic five-setter the following night. The teams might have swapped poll positions the following Monday with BYU (17-1) moving to No. 1 and Hawai’i (15-1) dropping to No. 2. But as what happened with the season, no one will ever know. The preseason poll, normally announced the first week of December, has been indefinitely postponed. All four of the Warrior seniors will be back in some capacity. All-Americans Rado Parapunov, Patrick Gasman and Colton Cowell will be back in uniform while James Anastassiades has moved to team manager. Not back for spring is freshman Dimitrios Mouchlias, who will redshirt in spring as he rehabs from foot surgery in his native Greece. Due to COVID restrictions, the Warriors’ international players all remained in their respective countries for distance learning. However, sophomore setter Jakob Thelle (Norway), sophomore hitter Filip Humler (Czech Republic) and freshman middle Guilerme Voss (Brazil) are schedule to be in Manoa for the first day of practice on Dec. 28. Parapunov (Bulgaria) was the only Warrior international player to be on-island for fall practice where the Hawai’i’s roster numbered 27. Wade said practices were high-level, singling out sophomore middle Max Rosenfeld as the most improved from spring. Wade, the reigning AVCA Coach of the Year (2019), also likes what he has seen from his incoming class of true freshmen, particularly hitter Spyros Chakas (Greece). The addition of setters Jack Walmer and Austin Buchanan gives Hawai’i five at that position. But as Wade is fond of saying, “You can never have too many good players.” While the Warriors may not have their first formal competition until March, Wade is floating the idea of intrasquad scrimmages being streamed online during the first two months of the year. “What’s exciting for me is that our true freshmen are getting to practice and play with our veteran guys Rado, Pat and Colton,” Wade said. “Along with Gage (junior libero Worsley), the veterans are passing along our gym culture, how it is we train and study in order for us to keep the same level we have in continuing to build on what we’ve established.”

Would like to see how Makua Marumoto is developing. Saw him putting in work with James Anastasiades, Rado and Colton couple months ago before the latest gym shut downs.

Makua is going to have to be patient and wait his turn. There are just too much talent in front of him. Maybe in two years when Humler graduates, that he will have a chance to step in. I see Chaz stepping into Colton’s role next year. Then the following year, with Humler graduating, a spot will open up but then he is going to have to battle Spyros. Spyros is a big time get. We had to beat out Pepperdine and Long Beach to get him so he is somebody that could be a future star. Wade already noticing Spyros’ talent and could even see PT this season if any of the OHs struggle.
