You cannot just read the rule without applying thought to it. You have to be logical and fair. The rule has fans interference too but if the ball go flying into the first row and the fan just was sitting there and not do nothing, do they replay the point? I donβt think so. Same with media equipment.
The camera man was where he is allowed to be just like where all the fans sitting on court side are allowed to be. If the cameraman moved into the path of the player then I can see the argument.
These rules were made to give the refs somewhere to start. The spirit of the rule was meant to be a remedy for fans who reached for the ball while players are attempting to play it, ball girls who were not paying attention and interrupted the play, cheerleading doing routine and end up in playing areas, etc...

The spirit of the rule was meant to be a remedy for fans who reached for the ball while players are attempting to play it, ball girls who were not paying attention and interrupted the play, cheerleading doing routine and end up in playing areas, etc... You should read the Texas v USC thread. That was the argument. At Gregory, the playing area apparently goes all the way up to the first row of seats. Fans regularly stand there but they're in the playing area. A fan who was there interfered with playing the ball (by standing there) so the point was replayed. Some Texas fans were mad that they replayed the point but, if that is part of the playing area in Gregory, that was the correct call.
In that case, the solution would be for Texas to take out the first row of seats so that no one can stand in the playing area. But they'd lose a lot of ticket revenue so they aren't going to do that. The compromise is to let fans sit in the first row (and have their feet in the playing area or stand just in front of their seats and be in the playing area) but replay any points if they're in the way.
If they allow camera ppl in the playing area, they should replay the point if the camera person interferes. The other option is to make the floor bigger so that the camera ppl can be outside the playing area and then require them to stay outside the playing area.
Either way, both coaches should be aware of exactly where the playing area is in a particular gym/arena.

It's great seeing three from the Big West in the tourney. And it looks like there's a great chance all three will make it to the second round.

Davis and Beach to play NIVC
at LB no less, wondering that LB is paying to be in it
Pepperdine apparently declined
any team in that field could win
not a big nivc fan, as Reggie Miller said in 1985 when UCLA went to and won the NIT, if you are gonna be in a tourny, u might as well win it
still a chance, lol, LB could have a winning record

LB is peaking and Iβm glad they get a chance to extend their season. And hosting! Want to see them or David take their shot at South Dakota.

I hope the BWC can keep this up next year too. Cal Poly should be fine right off the bat, UCSB has potential, but obviously lose Ruddins and some other key seniors.
LBSU tho, IMO, is the team to watch next year. Can they put it all together behind Tuaniga?

Ucsb beats Texas state 3-1.
The first was 25-21.
In set two Ucsb was down 13-19 but stormed back behind a 12-2 run to win 25-21.
Ucsb lost set three 20-25 but blew them out in set four 25-14.
