Libero Zoe Fleck was spectacular with many diving digs for a total of 26.
Ruddins and Froley with 18 kills each.

I expect them to prevail. UCSB made the mistake of awakening a sleeping giant. Allowing this to go to five was a big mistake for the Gauchos.

TVW with a Willis Reed rendition
can't help but think a year ago she missed the first round, and there's some justice for her to play today - maybe she just said this is gonna be my last indoor match of my career and she was going to end it on her terms

So UCSB lost to Texas in a very tight match. I believe that UCSB will be a very formidable team next season. The nation saw how fast their offense was and their defense was stable for a major portion of the match.
They are losing the great Ruddins but returning Froley, Farmer, Wilson, and Fleck. That’s a very good returning core team: 2 OHs, 1 MB, and the L. They will be a contender for the title.

Well done Big West
3 teams to the round of 32.
One team to the sweet 16 (almost two).
Now, lets hope the BW can consistently be this good or better and not be a multiple bid (not just two) conference every 4 or so years.
Awesome season Poly and UCSB.
Lets go Bows!

Good win last night by Hawaii against a team with some firepower. This year Hawaii has had a tendency to play up (or down) to the level of their competition and we saw more of that vs Northern Colorado but last night they swept a good team in a match they never looked like losing. I've been critical of Okino's passing but she had a very strong game and the Hawaii block was huge. Nebraska will be a step up but Hawaii can beat them. I'm hoping Jolie will be ready to start because she brings some much needed firepower to the lineup against the better opposition.

Super proud of the Big West this year! Hawaii, Cal Poly and UCSB should all be great next year again and I *think* LBSU has the ability to make that jump too. If the bottom and middle teams can elevate even a notch or two, the Big West could really surprise next year.

If the bottom and middle teams can elevate even a notch or two, the Big West could really surprise next year. UCSB will be considerably weaker, it's hard to see them competing. Poly also takes a big hit in their backcourt losing Dickson (who passed a 2.24) and will probably be replaced by Ungar (who passed a 2.05). They also lose TvW who obviously didn't help much last year but it only adds to the notion that the program is entirely dependant on Dvoracek. Hawaii will once again be the class of the conference, but have holes at setter and libero. I'd expect BVS to step in at Libero (and she'd be an upgrade of Okino to be completely honest). If she has to stay at OH, that'll be an indictment of the hitters on the roster. Setter is a bigger question mark because it'll be someone who isn't currently on the roster. That's scary but with RAM and Ljungqvist I'd trust them to figure it out. LBSU loses their primary blocking threat in Xue and their longtime Libero in Harward. Of the two Xue will be the harder to replace. She hit .350 and was their most consistent block (52.8% good block touch). Harward is, frankly, overrated around here - she passed a 2.17 on the season and her digging accuracy was just 61%. The top Liberos in the conference were above 68% in that same category and you'd hope your libero was at least passing a 2.20 and had 65% dig accuracy. So with that said, I think LBSU can improve in that category - possibly with Dela Cruz who passed actually passed better than Harward did on the year. Obviously they're also adding Tuaniga at setter. Given her experiences with team USA over the summer I'd hope she'll come in full on confidence and potentially be the catalyst for LBSU to push Cal Poly for second in the conference next year. The biggest impediment to Hawaii will, I suspect, will be the dilution and degradation of the conference. With the addition (or, subtraction perhaps?) of Bakersfield (RPI #246) and UC San Diego (DII until 2024) and the diminuation in terms of RPI for UCSB and by association, Cal Poly it'll be that much harder for Hawaii to crack the top 15 in RPI. Early predictions obviously but I suspect Hawaii wins the conference more easily, but actually finishes the season lower in RPI.

The biggest RPI factor for Hawaii next year is not conference play but, as of now, having a freshman setter step in at a position that was very strong last year. The team will need a fast start to keep their RPI high and upper tier play might take a few weeks breaking in a freshman setter that Hawaii cannot afford.
UCSB cannot replace L Ruddins but they do bring in some good hitters in the 2nd best freshman class in the Big West. Hopefully the overall team will improve and reduce the impact of losing Ruddins but when the set or match is on the line she cannot be replaced.
The conference RPI may take a hit if Poly and UCSB takes a half step back but I believe the potential improvement of LBSU and hopefully Davis can offset some of this. The conference really needs Fullerton and Riverside to make another step up the food chain.
Of the two newcomers I am not sure that UCSD will be an actual member for a few more years. Bakersfield has been stronger in the past so hopefully they improve quickly.
I also would like to know where you get your volleyball stats bigwestfan2. I would like to dive into those as well.

I would like to dive into those as well. I get the analytics from the same place as most of the coaches at D1 programs in the country. If you'd like access, just get a job in one such program. UCSB lose two thirds of the best back court in the conference and the #1 priority in their offense. Losing two 6 rotation OHs and I suspect another one may be on her way out soon too. They have some good arms but what made them a threat this year to anyone in the nation was the speed of their offense. If you lose all of that passing ability you're going to take more than a half a step back. Likewise if anyone is under the impression that Gigi Ruddins is half the player her sister was, they're in for a shock. There's a reason she didn't play a single rotation in the tournament. I agree about Hawaii. Their non conference will be tough with a new setter but they still have fewer holes than any other roster in the conference. I also agree that Beach will be better but but I don't know if they have the arms to crack a top 30 RPI and - again - Bakersfield and eventually UC San Diego will make it that much harder. In time, I expect San Diego to pull their weight after a few years but they'll be weaken the conference at least in the first few years after they join, which is a shame after such a good year.

Per the Big West Conference web site, UC San Diego will not become a member of the conference until 2024. I'm guessing that the #1 rated incoming freshmen class for the conference, in 2020, would be Long Beach St? BTW, Mia Tuaniga--PrepVolleyball.com's #11 best recruit and 1st Team All America--will be setting in the 2019 Under Armour All America game on December 31st.
