Talking about athletes weight is normal. Is not a personal judgment. This happens with male athletes also. Look at Jokic from the Denver Nuggets. Everyone talks about his weight...but it is nothing personal...and it does not change the fact he's of the best players in the league. Last year Zoran Terzic said some of his players came back from their club season super out of shape. He was referring to Mihajlovic who gained a few pounds while playing in Japan. Talking about weight re. female athletes is not appropriate because there'll be some confusion about whether the comment is targeting performance or, subconsciously, physical beauty. If someone is doing their job, then the weight issue is not an issue. Talking about weight re. male athletes is okay because we all know the purpose of those comments is to deliver the cleverest sophomoric insults, e.g., Luc Longley, Will Perdue, Shaq, Charles Barkley. It's okay to insult male athletes because they don't give a rat's ass and it's sport. You know what the result of not being able to discuss weight is? College coaches simply won’t recruit thicker high school girls because they know that if they get to college and put on a few more pounds, they simply can’t have a conversation about it without risking their job.

It's a tricky conversation for a male coach, fraught with peril.

I'm sure a coach is able to have a productive and non-demeaning one-on-one talk about performance-related weight issues with the student-athletes in their charge. And I'm sure they do. It's the ones who call their kids "fat" and "gross" and other hurtful names that cause problems -- and those coaches are the ones who should get a couple of swift kicks to the face before getting the pink slip.

Parsons blocking and hitting looked great today. Rettke is just amazing. Foecke is a hammer. Ogbogu's vertical is insane. We are so blessed in the middle. Both Foecke and Parsons struggled at times on serve receive. Courtney was solid on reception and defense. I thought her setting was generally good too. It was great to see Lake get some playing time! I'd definitely like to see Lee get in at some point and see what she can do. Great way to open up VNL. Very promising to see our rookies come in and have great success in their debuts, albeit to lesser teams, but against national teams, nonetheless. Hats off and congrats! ❤️❤️❤️

Thompson only hit .200 today, but she served TWENTY TWO times. I still stan. She got some not great sets and put in some not great situations but she has SO MUCH potential. the whole US better stan.

She is “significantly” heavier? What were her before/after weights? No specific number, just the difference between her college and VNL weight If you don't have the numbers, how are you aware that there is a "significant" difference?

she is a woman now and very strong. So, you are saying that being more fit would not help her be a better athlete? Nutrition is a big deal. Elite athletes come in all shapes and sizes. An elite swimmer looks very different from an elite softball player, Serena looks different than Kvitova, Griner and Stewart, Larson and Foecke. Nutrition has nothing to do with it, and having a different body type does not preclude that person from being athletic. Women's bodies are to be celebrated. Poulter is, at the same time, a skinny legend and thicc bih. She's both thintastic and curvalicious. Everyone is. Because all women's bodies are to be celebrated and not shamed because they change or don't meet your expectations.
