All of these facebook posts with pictures, or IG stories like Jace Pardon or Troy Field showing DM's and videos of Zaun just being a goof and getting a look behind the scenes of a guy who seemed to always be making people laugh or realize they didn't need to take life to seriously.
Hard to not feel sad all day every time a new post pops up, I hope his family knows how much the volleyball world loved him from the people who were close to him to the complete strangers who are casual fans that loved watching him play.

Avp did today. I find it crazy Phil said he had depression 9 years ago which was after he won gold. Wonder what made that happen. Seems he would be on a high and was the best team in the world Sometimes, when you accomplish a major goal...and it isn't what you expect, it can lead to depression..... And it could have been something that leads to depression in "everyday" life, death of a loved one, rocky relationship, financial issues, etc. You never know what someone else is going through... Lots of top athletes suffer from depression. They put their all into something, their entire focus and when it's over or when they win and have no more to achieve it can hit them hard. Friends in Colorado Springs at the olympic training center talk a lot about elite olympians in that community dealing with depression. It is a real issue for them even though things on the outside are great.

Friends in Colorado Springs at the olympic training center talk a lot about elite olympians in that community dealing with depression. It is a real issue for them even though things on the outside are great. Lots of top PEOPLE suffer from depression. Has nothing to do with putting their all into something and then having it be over. Being an athlete is irrelevant. Lots of rich people suffer from depression.. Lots of geniuses suffer from depression. Lots of powerful business executives and politicians suffer from depression. People who have resources have it treated medically. If you're a top person, you've got a 20% chance of dealing with depression. Folks, the point I'm trying to make is that it is not about circumstances, wins, losses, beginning, ends... they have an influence, but the core issue is brain chemistry.

Is it possible to change the title of this thread to RIP versus developing?

As an older guy who has been through life a bit, I still cannot fathom how tough it must be for a young person to get to the point where it all seems so hopeless that you take that final step. Words cannot express how horrible his family, friends and everyone whose life he touched, even in some small way, must feel. We can only hope that the next young person who goes through whatever he did will be able to reach out and get some help before it is too late. Not a religious person, but am saying a prayer for everyone affected by his passing, and hoping that close friends live Avery, etc. are able to deal with this somehow.

In the article from the first link (p. 1 of this thread), there was a brief mention of a broken window. I don’t know if that broken window is the window to Zaun’s hotel room, but if that is, it suggests some sort of struggle or accident to me. But if the authorities believe it’s a suicide, I guess they thought the broken window was irrelevant.

Really sad.
Also some interesting (incorrect) understandings of depression in this thread.

There was initially a tweet sent from an eyewitness who said he saw a man jump out of the window, video showed eyewitness pan from ground up to broken window which appeared to be lower portion of the window but hard to really tell exactly with it being one giant golden mirror essentially.

I don’t think you can open windows in AC. So if one was inclined to jump one would have to break it first.

I think the only question is whether he broke the window, then jumped, or broke it as he jumped. But do we really need to talk about this.
