There was talk on here during the VNL about bringing Lake in for a tryout in January. Maybe with how well JWO has been doing, he’s written her off? If so, PLEASE take JWO. Courtney just is the answer. JWO is better, but if it comes down to lake or Courtney, I want Courtney. USA beat china with lake because of carlini. Lake is not bad but she's just simply not ready. The service pressure of international teams took a toll on her, teams very rarely target a libero from start to end of a match. Will Courtney has her own issues, it's wrong to hype up lake insuing shenis a better option than courtney Lake played a few matches, but her ability to play at this level is still definitely an unknown. Courtney is not an unknown. She's not a good libero. Choose your poison.

I was referring to posts during the summer about bringing her (and Jordan Thompson) back in January.

JWO or Lake.....that should be the two that should get a look. I'm leaning a bit more towards JWO since she will be playing all season in Germany.
Thompson should land a good team in either Italy or Turkey if a spot opens up. Would she only get that spot if someone was injured or would a coach just replace someone playing poorly with her? How does that work? Don't player's contracts protect them from being replaced unless they are injured?

If a team adds a player mid-season (with the intention of replacing a current player), they have to honor the current player contract under the terms of the contract--which could mean/include any of the following: continuing to pay them whether they play or not, selling their contract to another team, a buy-out clause, and/or a termination clause (one or both can cancel under some specified conditions). It all depends on the specific language of a contract, but most contracts are fairly standardized in terms of the manner in which contracts are guaranteed or terminated.

JWO will have a lot more experience-she definitely has the edge, and I’d say it’s a pretty big edge. If Karch wants a cheerleader that doesn’t play (CT-2014) he should take Lake, also.

Courtney is not great, but has certainly proved she's higher on the list than lake.

This is what the public says, 83 votes in
OH: Larson, Robinson, Bartsch-Hackley, Hill OPP: Drews, Thompson S: Carlini, Poulter MB: Ogbogu, Akinradewo, Dixon L: Wong-Orantes
That's your top 12 people!

Dixon over Washington is mind boggling, she is no where to be found offensively

Dixon over Washington is mind boggling, she is no where to be found Ironically that’s what opposing attackers find in Washington’s block.

If all goes as hoped, Foluke and Chiaka will carry the bulk of the workload anyway. At least in the elimination/medal round matches. It is Dixon's defense that puts her on my roster projection. I cannot remember which match it was in the VNL, possibly the final, but I feel like it was earlier than that. In that match, USA was struggling. So, Karch subbed in Dixon and Larson and everything turned around. The blocking improved with Dixon and the passing improved with Larson and they ended up battling back to win the match.
That is the kind of contribution you may need in a tight match in the Olympics. You don't bring her to be your instant offense change-of-pace player, you don't bring her to carry the load of playing time in the medal round. You bring her to flip the script in a match when you struggle defensively. Washington doesn't do that. Rettke and Tapp don't do that. Dixon does. She reads and closes the block better than the other middles. Any kills she may bring are just gravy.

I really like Tapps game. She isn’t a liability blocking or hitting. I just think she’s too balanced. Like her blocking doesn’t match Dixons and her offense doesn’t match Chiakas but she’s in between them and equally adept at both. I think that’s why she isn’t being considered heavily as of right now.

Rettke is a possibility. College won't be the reason she won't make the team. I just think that for a presumed 3 spots for middles on the roster that you'd struggle to justify taking her over Foluke, Ogbogu, Washington or Dixon at this point. Where she is by the end of VNLs next year is anyone's guess. She's got great offensive skill, but she still needs improvement defensively.
