Re: Thompson
I'm not seeing the struggle at OPP you guys are talking about. Maybe I need to look at her stats, but in the two matches I watches, she has done about as I expected a first year pro to do. She certainly (I really should see the stats) is siding out at OPP almost as well as Robinson is at OH. She has always been below par on blocking, and that has not changed... she appears to have zero press over.
What I was impressed with, however, is her court coverage on a couple of plays in the Galatasaray match.
I do agree that she is not getting a lot of heat on her attacks.

I also think JT's play is more apt for 4. She's not that effective as a terminal-type OPP.

Fast sets to Robinson can help her beat the block even though she can be a crafty attacker. Jordan should be swinging over many with her height and athleticism. Someone else here posted she lacked arm speed. Is it that? Could it be lack of strength? Certainly unaware of the strength program at Cincinnati. Will time in the USA program help her strength, and therefore arm speed? Today, right now, Jordan may not be as terminal as some other Oppos. But too soon to call for a move to OH imo. I know, I know. She played OH in college. But is that where she can best deliver consistent positive results?

Yes, the sets are too high and slow; but I also think that JT has a tendency to get too far under the ball.... often even letting the ball get behind her. If she speeds up her approach and keeps the ball slightly in front of her, she will have no problem putting balls away with power.

Ooofff. Fenerbahce has lost to Eczacibasi Vitra 4 times this year and all in 5 sets. Two times in this league and two times in Champions League.

Ooofff. Fenerbahce has lost to Eczacibasi Vitra 4 times this year and all in 5 sets. Two times in this league and two times in Champions League. It's clear that Boskovic is the difference-maker between the 2 teams as the clearly best player in either team, so that when both play with full squads or when each is missing some (not named Tijana) important player, Boskovic will tip the balance and Eczacibasi will win a close match. The only chance for Fener is either for Tijana to be injured or for them to be playing in full strength against Vitra when Kim (or Natalia) is injured. That's ironic, considering that one can easily argue is that Fener has the greater number of world-class players, and has a better-constructed team. Think of it as akin to Golden State vs Cleveland in 2016, where Fenerbahce are Warriors and Eczacibasi are Cavs.

When is the Turkish Cup going to start? And by start I mean finish. When are the quarterfinals and do we know what the bracket looks like?

Naz is a big reason why the team is struggling. She even got benched for her troubles. Those atrocious high balls she kept launching OOS were doing her hitters ZERO favors. Sometimes you have to run a quicker offense in transition, especially when you have two hitters who are VERY comfortable with it.

Fener will be fine if: Kelsey breaks out of her offensive slump. She is back to her pre-VNL self. Her attack numbers against ECZ 8-3-6-27. Vargas returns to form at OP. Her recent numbers on her second game back against Salo. 16-4-1-29. Jt can handle receiving at OH which she will be playing and get back her attacking rhythm.

Their liberos are terrible. Kelsey is the only decent passer the team has. Vargas and Thompson are taking turns in certain rotations. Often times it is just Sarioglu and Robinson passing which is doable but not ideal. I think Novara has the slight edge but will they execute? If they bring their Club World Championships form during the quarters....Fenerbahce will have an uphill battle on their hands.

Don't underestimate Naz. She can deliver what the coach wants, at least she did for Guidetti. The lesson here maybe that coming back from having a baby is not quite as easy as we hope for, Foluke? I'm not that high on Novara because of the level that Brako is playing at and the inconsistency of Elitsa, and Courtney, a much lessor version of Krob, normally. Fener has four solid attackers and I think they have the time to pull all the pieces back together. Jt, Kelsey, Vargas, Eda, and Naz can make up for other weaknesses against a team like Novara. Not however Vakif or Imoco. Maybe Hancock will be the difference.
