Jamesville-DeWitt upsets Burnt Hills in 5 sets to reach their first state tournament in school history in the Central Region D2 Final.
In what could have been the game of the season in the state, Shen came back to down CNS in a wild 5 setter. Set scores were (25-19, 13-25, 22-25, 25-22, 16-14). CNS had Shen up 8-5, 13-11, and 14-13 before Shen rolled off 3 in a row to win it.
P.S. Someone needs to tell the state that having the regional semifinal and final on back to back nights (with all that travel) is a really bad idea.

Looks like all the results have already been accounted for here. I’ll give some recaps later.
Totally agree that the semifinal and final shouldn’t be back to back days. You could see it in Shen, and especially in Burnt Hills. Shen is actually the first team to win back to back away games on back to back nights in the Central Region. Have to say didn’t think that Shen had a great chance after they went down 2-1, and it was the worst I’ve seen (and Burnt Hills) them play all year (up until about midway through the 4th set). Burnt Hills self destructed and didn’t have the legs to push through all 5, but credit to Jamesville-DeWitt for a great match.

Saturday 11/16 Recap
What. A. Day. Three of the four regional matches go into 5th sets, and the other goes to 4.
Central Region D1 Championship Shenendehowa (22-0, Sec. II) def Cicero-North Syracuse (21-1, Sec. III) (3-2; 25-19, 13-25, 22-25, 25-22, 16-14)
Shen advances to the state tournament for the third time in the last five years, the most of any program in the state. They went into hostile territory on back to back nights against undefeated teams and became the first team in region history to win both away regional matches on back to back nights. Wasn't their best game, but they'll survive and advance. State really needs to take a look at moving away from back to back regional games, Shen was faced with 14 hours of round trip travel over a 30+ hour span, and likely didn't back until at least 1am both nights. CNS's undefeated season comes to an end after returning 6 starters from a team that advanced to the state tournament last year, they'll return 3 of those 6 next year. From what I saw on NFHS network, CNS will continue to be a very solid libero and ball control team.
Central Region D2 Championship Jamesville-DeWitt (15-4, Sec. III) def Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (15-3, Sec. II) (3-2; 14-25, 28-26, 17-25, 25-17, 15-9)
Jamesville-DeWitt advances to the state tournament for the first time in school history with a big upset win over Burnt Hills. Looked like it was going to be an ugly one in Burnt Hills favor, but J-D looked like a completely different team in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th sets. Burnt Hills completely self destructed in the 4th set, and it carried over into the 5th. It will be interesting to see if Jamesville-DeWitt can carry this over into the state tournament next weekend, or if they'll be completely destroyed. I can honestly see it going either way for them. I know I've complained about this enough already, but really did look like the 14+ hours of travel for the Section 2 teams got to Burnt Hills at the end. Looked completely dead and just rolled over. Burnt Hills is heading towards a dark, dark place next season, graduated most of their major pieces and wouldn't be surprised if they ended up around .500 in Section 2.
Far West Region D1 Championship McQuaid (20-0, Sec. V) def Clarence (17-2, Sec. VI) (3-2; 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 25-27, 15-7)
As expected, McQuaid takes home the Far West D1 title. The most decorated program in state history returns to the state tournament for the first time since 2015 with a lineup full of studs. Signs are starting to point down to an absolute showdown between McQuaid and Sachem North next weekend in the state final. It's been too long since those two great programs have met. Sachem will need to get past a scrappy Massapequa team first on Tuesday night. Really wish it had been streamed, because it sounds like Owen Wickens vs. Teddy Payne did not disappoint. Is Payne comitted yet? IMO, the success McQuaid has been having in volleyball and other sports is really going to reignite the public vs. private debate, their football team appears to be headed for a state title after their baseball team won in the spring. It's gotten to the point where teams refuse to play them, most notably Penfield, which was a great rivalry for so many years, but has been ruined by accusations of recruiting players, McQuaid's somewhat unethical connections to the Pace program, etc.
Far West Region D2 Championship Grand Island (21-0, Sec. VI) def Churchville-Chili (21-2, Sec. V) (3-1; 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-12)
In a match that very well could have decided the D2 state title, Grand Island storms back to take down Churchville-Chili in 4 sets. All three teams in Division 2 will be headed to the state tournament in Albany for the first time (regardless of Tuesday's result, Westhampton and Long Beach haven't made it since NYSPHSAA sanctioned boy's volleyball over a decade ago). A great season comes to a close for Churchville-Chili, by far the best season in school history. If this year's D2 playoffs have shown us anything, it's how ridiculously hard it is to build a consistently successful program at a D2 school.

McQuaid is listed on the state website with a classification of 918 students. For the 2019 season that would put them in Class B. Are they competing in Class A because they are not a public school?

The fact that McQuaid is allowed in NYSPHSAA is absurd. It’ll be great to see them finally play Sachem North again. Those two have been 1-2 every coaches poll so far this year.

Yes, Section V still allows them to compete in NYSPHSAA, however they require them to play up in D1. Important to note that since it's only a boys school, it would be like having a 1,900 student co-ed school, although that has no effect on them playing D1. I could see them being banned from NYSPHSAA in the next 10 years (the athletic program, not just volleyball), and forced to play in Montsignor Martin with Canisius. They've been at the center of a statewide debate on private schools for a while, and their athletic program is only getting stronger.
