Just reposting this now that Metzger is the new coach. I made this post right after beach volleyball was announced:
"Elliott might be able to use beach volleyball as a way to extend practice time and skills for the indoor players for a limited amount of time - say, the first two years.
That isn't something Texas as an athletic department or an institution would put up with for very long. If Texas competes in something, they want to compete for national championships. I realize in football it doesn't look like they're trying very hard, but that's more about incompetence than desire.
Well before the 2025 season I would expect Texas to field an independent beach staff, with a full complement of players with scholarships. But between now and when that happens, there may be some competitive advantages for the indoor program of the sort that Nebraska currently enjoys.
Unless Texas makes some kind of ridiculous home run hire on the coaching front, I would imagine it will take some time to get the program up to speed, and if they make a poor hire initially at the head coach position, it extends the timeline. But eventually Texas will expect to compete at the upper tier of the sport. Whether it happens or not is a combination of factors, but that will be the goal."
This isn't Nebraska. They have their model, but that was never going to fly at Texas.

Questions from an indoor fan who has never posted in this section of VT:
1. What league does the current Texas Beach team play in?
2. What league will the SEC-based Texas Beach team play in?
3. Ranking the Metzger hire, was he #1 or #3 or #something in terms of the best hire possible? (open to interpretation I know)
4. Where to build the official courts? Intramural fields (building them up) or somewhere closer to campus?
5. How many fans typically attend a beach game?
6. How many assistant coaches does a beach team carry?
7. How many players does a high level D1 beach team carry?

1. The team did not play in a conference this year. 2. ?? There are currently two SEC teams (LSU & South Carolina) and one other Big 12 team (TCU) that play beach volleyball. All three are in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association for beach volleyball. This "conference" only sponsors three sports - beach and mens & womens swimming. All "members" are primary members of another conference for the majority of sports.

Omg this is crazy lmao. I thought he loved UCLA. Guess it was an offer he couldn’t turn down. I'm sure he got a tremendous offer; that will most likely be more fruitful in TX than in SoCal. Maybe he just wanted to get the hell outta California...just like millions of others are doing.

But since the SEC doesn't support women's rowing, Tennessee and Alabama "play" in the Big 12. In fact, they came in #2 and #3 in this year's Big 12 rowing championship.
Now map this question to women's beach volleyball. What league would Texas play in when we move into the SEC?

My understanding is that a conference must have at least four members to be recognized by the NCAA and/or be eligible for an automatic qualifier spot. For instance in rowing, the Big 12 has five schools and the SEC two so the two SEC schools are affiliate members of the Big 12. However in 24, both will four rowing schools. UT and OU gives the SEC four. UT and OU leaving drops the Big 12 to three, but UCF has a rowing team so that puts them back to four. We will see what the two conferences do in rowing for 24. Even with UT joining the SEC, I believe that only gives the SEC three schools with beach teams (UT, LSU, South Carolina). So I would assume we'll join the CCSA in beach since it has the teams in our conference in the 24 season (TCU) and 25 season (LSU, South Carolina).

My best guess is they will join the CCSA. The CCSA currently only has four schools: FSU, LSU, & Grand Canyon, who are all top ten programs, along with South Carolina who is consistently in the top 20.

1. Already answered. 2. Already answered. But, to correct a previous answer, I believe the NCAA requires 6 teams to get an Automatic Qualifier to the NCAA tournament. There is going to be a lot of re-alignment of BVB leagues in the next few years, including UCLA and USC possibly looking for a new conference (B1G doesn't play BVB). TCU recently announced a move from CCSA to Conference USA for their BVB team. 3. As you said, open to interpretation. 4. No idea about the UT campus. 5. Not many fans attend. Usually only a few hundred. If UT builds a nice facility, and becomes nationally competitive, they will probably draw more. But, still not likely to be more than a thousand or two. 6. Current rules allow for one full-time assistant, and one volunteer. 7. Most of the top teams have about 18-20 players on their roster.

The CCSA website shows Missouri State as a beach volleyball member. Do you know if they will still be a member next season?
