More analysis of tactics. Also comments on plays that the amateur fan might not appreciate... like blockers picking up turnaround digs. Attacks on one and two, etc. Otherwise sometimes less talk - and let the fans enjoy the action without excessive background. The announcing has not yet caught up to the format. Many, like Dain, still seem to be aiming for the 1990s/early aughts model where fans were watching one game a week, maybe, because that is what was televised. But that model applies extremely poorly to a Saturday morning match on a streaming service. If you are commenting on Brewster/Field v Lotman/Bomgren or Latvia v China for 3rd in pool, everyone watching is a VB fan and is likely going to hear 3-5 hours of commentary that day. A more conversational, in-depth tone, with less constant talk is more suitable there. We don't need the 95th explanation that Laura Ludwig originated the one over bump shot (she didn't BTW but whatever), or the same tired baby court stories. On the other hand, the kind of tactical analysis that engaged fans would understand and some real criticism of player weaknesses would be nice

Clayton Lucas is the best! Really like Trav and recently enjoyed Javier Bello (being an active player on the pro tour brings some good insights, plus has a lovely British accent). Please take the mic away from Lewie Lett and his fake laughs always pretending to be funny and the centre of the show (his nasal tone is incredibly annoying too)

Not to rain on anybody's "I'd love to hear so-and-so," but NBC and Peacock pay huge money to the IOC to own the American TV rights to the Olympics. NBC quite likely will use the announcers it previously has employed to call the Olympics. Here was the NBC lineup for beach volleyball and indoor volleyball during the 2021 Tokyo Games:
BEACH VOLLEYBALL: Chris Marlowe won a gold medal as captain of the 1984 U.S. Olympic volleyball team, and will return to handle beach volleyball play-by-play for his eighth Olympics as an NBC commentator. Marlowe will split play-by-play duties with Kenny Albert, making his seventh NBC Olympics appearance. Beach volleyball Olympian Kevin Wong returns for his third Olympic assignment as an analyst, joined by analyst and former member of the U.S. women’s national volleyball team Amy Gant, who makes her second NBC Olympics appearance, and reporter and gold medalist Dain Blanton in his second NBC Olympics appearance.
VOLLEYBALL: Paul Sunderland, a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. volleyball team at the 1984 Olympics, returns to call indoor volleyball, a role he’s held for NBC Olympics in Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney, Beijing, London, and Rio. Kenny Albert will split play-by-play duties with Sunderland. They are joined by analysts Kevin Barnett, a two-time Olympian in his fourth Olympic assignment, and Amy Gant, as well as reporter Heather Cox.
TV coverage of the Olympics is not geared toward a tiny niche audience of die-hard fans. Those people will watch regardless because of the Olympics.

Denise Austin of the UK is perceptive snd snimated on FIVB volleyballworld.tv I like her style, although sometimes too emotional, but her emotions often give good insights. Lewis's too. Holly McPeak is fairly good on NCAA broadcasts, albeit a bit sugary - too many positives. Few critiques. Holly has improved a ton since she first started broadcasting. And it is obvious she does her homework on the players.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see KWJ having a bigger broadcasting role with NBC for the Paris Olympics. She did some work for NBC in Tokyo, and she does have some TV announcing experience as an analyst. I could see NBC bringing in someone like April Ross also. The US will have two medal contenders among its women’s teams. Having some recognizable female faces among its broadcast team will help attract the casual fan.

I really enjoy Rich Lambourne's commentary with good insights and sense of humor and nothing cringy or overly opinionated.

The "main" broadcasts in the US (aka matches with USA teams) will probably have the usual suspects listed above. It's the other matches that will most likely be streamed that will have Clayton, Lewie, and maybe Ci. Amy Gant did some streamed matches during the 2021 games too.

There’s only going to be one court and a few matches each day so I’ll bet Marlowe and Wong will still call most of the matches. I don’t recall who else called matches from Tokyo on NBC and affiliate networks but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t British announcers.

I loved Mike Dodd's perceptiveness and down-home style several years ago. Travis is good too. Holly McPeak is very knowledgable and has good energy on her NCAA broadcasts. Denise Austin also. Her emotion adds more than it detracts.

I started reading through this post then remembered it doesn’t really matter who commentates because they show commercials through over half the game anyways. Always a frustrating time

Who is the female commentator in this match? Is she cringe [y/n]? She's, meh but she made one super cringe comment on the women's gold medal match. She was complementing Kira Walkenhorst's heavy arm swing and then says Kira hand sets and that's an extremely difficult skill for the women. Lol.
