Anouk in the Q of a Challenge so weak Pavs is the 2 seed? First the mighty have fallen far. Joannouk have an Elite win and an Olympic medal.
Second how dumb is FIVB seeding when Thailand gets into the MD over Joannouk because they got a 4th in Goa. (A tournament Joannouk won).

Harward and Deberg won a norceca event last week after beating Simo and AVW in the semifinals, Terrible field, as per usual with norceca, but a good result for both teams heading into this challenger event. Harward and Deberg beat Navas and Gonzales in a tight three-set final. I am guessing that Puerto Rican team will be one of the favorites, along with whomever from Canada, at the norceca Olympic quailifer since there won't be an American team there.

I agree that Joanouk is better than THA, but seeding is just best 3 of last 4. Joanouk can't really afford to skip events because they're in a race for SUI2. So their Goa finish got pushed out a while ago. Best 3 in the last 6 months would help a little bit but wouldn't allow for as much movement in the short term. Would that be any better? I really wish they would figure out a way to discourage teams from skipping events. Maybe you should get 0 points for any event that you have enough entry points to qualify for, but don't enter or drop out of without a medical excuse. I suppose that would punish teams from countries with poor financial support or geographic location. But maybe that's worth it to ensure that all events are as high level as possible.

Yes, unless Pavan/McBain get passed by CZE, AUT, THA, FIN, or ESP2 in the next eight tournaments. All five are one good finish away from passing them for the 18th spot in Points. The Pavan we just saw in Saquarema will probably slip out of Top 18. A healthy Pavan will likely qualify on Points.
If Pavan plays the NORCECA Olympic qualifier, even hobbled, I don't see them losing to Puerto Rico.

I am going out for this PR team. They have given some good teams some heart runs and lost a lot of tight matches (from memory) and think they are due a potential run at a key moment. They are my outside womens NORCECa pic

this is as good a place as any to put this post, didn't want to create a new one for: FIVB Futures, Tahiti, 4/10 - 4/13Molly Turner Shaw / Chloe Loreen should win this one. Only 10 teams entered. 200 points to each player of the winner. This will help Shaw's entry points, which currently sit at 160/110/144 for 414. This event should elevate those to 504. Then, with Shaw/Loreen having qualified for the NORCECA Tour Finals on May 10ish, likelihood is she picks up another at least 360 points. Giving a new Entry Points total of 680. To put that in perspective, the other Littles for USA have the following Entry Points: Flint: 1250 Sponcil: 1010Hildreth: 760 (Turner) Shaw: 680 (projected for post 5/13)
Quiggle: 652 Chacon: 480 (high finish last 3 Futures events) Harward: 430 Kan: 430 Peranich: 400 Lindahl: 360 Sweat: 310 Savvy: 308 Urango: 272 Race: 200 Zana: 180. Maple: 105 That puts Shaw in a position to have a lot of leverage regarding which Big would need her points to enter FIVB Challenge events. Or, stick with Noreen, or go with D Kraft.. or go back with Maddie Anderson.. so many possibilities.
Of note, Zana seems to have low-finished herself completely out of FIVB competition other than Futures or NORCECA regular tour, unless a Big with a lot of points wants to help her back in. She would have been at 250 points except her 70 point finish, her third counting score, is now more than a year old so it timed out.

Van Winkle compared to Toni? do monkeys fly? Ha no judgement on partner quality. It’s just seemed like the two of them needed a change after the last few tournaments.

Van Winkle compared to Toni? do monkeys fly? coming from the guy that plays lower courts in Laguna Main Street, guessing you're unrated too

Van Winkle compared to Toni? do monkeys fly? Is Toni 100% ? If not, maybe VW IS the right choice.

Van Winkle compared to Toni? do monkeys fly? coming from the guy that plays lower courts in Laguna Main Street, guessing you're unrated toounrated? I rate myself exceedingly highly. Seriously, we'll see if you're playing on any court at my age. I saw two other UCLA players, Menges/Lee (RIP) dominate the tour... I'm going to go out on a limb and suppose you've never seen either of them play in person.
Which brings me to an actual point... when you've seen thousands of players play tens of thousands of games, you have a better idea of how to evaluate a player than when you're mid 30s.
Don't think I don't pull/ed for Bruins like Von Hagen, Menges, Lee, Karch, Stokie, Steffes, Sinjin on down to Hagen and Partain. On the women's side, JJJ, Davis, Youngs, McPeak, Sponcil, Savvy. Looking forward to Newberry, Denaburg. I actually like it when you call her Abby VanWinkWALL. Talent, however, matters more than homerism and if we're comparing two players, I calls 'em like I sees 'em.

this just for BMB -- AVW looked good in first Quali game. Savvy hit one ball so hard it ripped the sunglasses and hat off the defender's head.
