this just for BMB -- AVW looked good in first Quali game. Savvy hit one ball so hard it ripped the sunglasses and hat off the defender's head. bummed I didn't get to watch live, had a work call/meeting, gotta watch the replay on YT

Oh gawd, just looked at Q2 and Savvy/AVW play Joanouk. How did Joanouk get down to Q in a Challenge? There are at least 5 teams in the MD that would be easier draws than Joanouk.
*edit* now I see why. they don't get to count their 9th and 5th from the past 30 days, so two of their Entry Points low scores are from when Mader was still coming back from her shoulder surgery last fall.
That's a tough break... facing a team with 9th E16 + 9th/5th Challenge finishes this past month in 3 tourneys being in Q.

If they play well they are the best team in the tournament. Been a long time since they played well though. Maybe they just wont ever get all the way back from that injury. Nice to see Brooke getting a win

Tough loss for Harward/Deberg, it felt like they had this match won but some key errors at the end of set three cost them. Hailey shanked a pass at match point that got them out of system, leading to an easy winning point for Slovenia.
I was impressed by Deberg though. She's got a huge imposing block and a big arm. Needs to work on her speed and footwork on the beach. Reminds me of Kloth about three years ago. Hope she sticks with it.

Van Winkle compared to Toni? do monkeys fly? Apparently they do. And maybe Joanouk’s seeding was more accurate than we thought.

AVW was Joana's wicked witch of the west. Ate Joana for lunch. Short served her for at least 4-5 aces. Blocked her at least 4-5 times.
AVW is going to be in Joana's nightmares for weeks.
I'm pleasantly surprised. Hope it continues in Pool Play.

Couldn't recognize the short serve. Hit into the net, hit into AVW, hit out, served into the net, just a mess. Savvy/AVW were smart to keep the serve on her.
Is it a confidence thing? She's played much better in the prior three tournaments. I don't think it is physical. She's got a lot of time to think about it. Joanouk are WL#2 for Tepic, so might not get in there, and then Xiamen where at least they're MD.
This is surreal. These are the Tokyo Olympic Bronze medalists in the prime of their careers fighting tooth and nail just to qualify for Paris.

Abz and Savvage running that uptempo sets across court is working well, opening up the block for Savvage to detonate the ball with the open net

coming from the guy that plays lower courts in Laguna Main Street, guessing you're unrated too I actually like it when you call her Abby VanWinkWALL. Talent, however, matters more than homerism and if we're comparing two players, I calls 'em like I sees 'em.
I wish I was clever enough to come up with "VanWinkWALL", I stole that from viralvolleyist (Rob Espero on the Mic). Heard him say it a few years back at Mapes Beach when he was hosting/commentating

I’m pretty sure she took a whole season off and then the medal was one of her first tournaments back. There was some Sandcast episode where Savvy was talking about waiting for her to rehab and then they were going to start playing together again to go for Paris. And then I believe her injuries since then have been more minor, but she clearly hasn’t been at her best since then
