Sure but every team that is playing should have more points than Mexico. FIVB really goes out of its way to do things poorly. This basically gives the biggest advantage to the lowest seeded pool Isn’t there some kind of rule that gives the home team some kind of seeding bump or something? Ok just looked it up. If the home team is not in the top 11 of the tournament, then they are given the 12 seed and placed in pool d, so yep big advantage to the lowest seeded pool.

Mudinger get George/Andre should they advance to Q2. That's a very tough draw, but no worse than Cri who get the Cubans in Q2. Failure to advance to MD would be the realistic ending to Cri's Olympic run. Cri need at least 5th in Tepic to keep hopes alive. On the Road to Paris this week, Travis said he was going to China next week, which I assume means he's going with Tri and Chaim for the Xiamen Challenger. I suppose it's possible they'll also fly back to Brazil the following week in the hopes of getting into the qualifier for the Elite 16. But it also wouldn't surprise me if they lose tomorrow and call it quits. Is it mathematically impossible for them to qualify for the olympics if they don't make it out of the Q?

The last 2 points right there of the first set pretty much sums up Tri and Chaims run together all in 2 points.

Seems like covering attackers is out of style for some. Schalk not covering Tri who got blocked at 19-19 - and then Tri hitting out in a rally at 19-20 to lose the first set to France's Gauthier-Rat/Krou.

It is hard to watch. Tri's face is just so distraught. down 6-11 in the second set.

Bourne missing an option out on the sideline at 6-9. Schalk blocked for an 8-13 technical time-out. You'd think Krou, at 1,93 meters, was some kind of blocking machine with six blocks. France 21-15 vs. USA 4or 5 (or whatever). The announcer kindly says: "some uncharacteristic unforced errors by USA"

I don't see how they can get on a plane to China after this. I agree. Just wow. Time to stop throwing good money after bad. I am assuming that the stipend money Tri/Chaim for being Top 3 men's was shifted over to Mudinger recently, and Tri/Chaim are on "runoff" or whatever the word is to describe payments continuing for a few months before they terminate.
Both of them need to start saving their powder for the battle that is the transition into non-Pro-Beach player life. I can't even see them making much money on AVP the way they're playing. No use wasting plane money for Xiamen, or paying a coach at this point.

Is it mathematically impossible for them to qualify for the olympics if they don't make it out of the Q? life isn't about impossible or 100%, it is about probabilities. As to "mathematically possible", let's assume they win Xiamen. That's only an improvement of 400 points over their current total. I do not believe they can get into Brasilia, as they are 5th on the Reserve list, but maybe many will drop out. If they win 3 tournaments, they'd pass Treo and Mudinger, assuming Treo and Mudinger do not improve their points at ALL in the next 5 tournaments, including this Tepic. They are 1000 points behind Treo. When is the last time Cri have won an FIVB tournament? I'll save you time, NEVER.
Let me put it a different way. The best they've done in the 14 months of this Olympic Qualifying period is 760. If they do 760 in 4 of the 5 tournaments left, they would pass Treo. But, Treo are going to get some finishes too, so my feeling is Cri would have to get 760 in all five tournaments to pass Treo, and Treo would have to stumble badly.
Back to my point about probabilities... I'd say the chances Cri pass Treo are about 1/200, or half a percent.

speaking of teams still in this tournament, the Grimalts are giving the Bellos more than they can handle so far. The Grimalts a super rested having been elimnated early in almost every tourhament this year, so that is an advantage. We're in set 2. Let's see if the Bellos can push it to 3. 17 all in set 2. now OT in set 2.

Anyone know who the Grimalts' main competition would be if they have to get to Paris via the South America Zone Qualifier?

Anyone know who the Grimalts' main competition would be if they have to get to Paris via the South America Zone Qualifier? The Argentinian brothers (still playing?), I guess. Or the young Chileans, dependig on the rules. Or meaybe (doubtful) some other team can manage an upset (Venezuela?).

I'm tuning back in waiting for USA3 to play in half an hour. And I see CUB drops the first set to NOR2. As I wrote in another thread just now, this CUB team is so streaky. Looks like this is going 3, and CUB will probably win now that they're in gear, but man, you just never know what you're going to get from match to match with these guys.

Just a sign of their inexperience. I would’ve thought the indoor venue would benefit them, and maybe it shows with Alayo’s blocking but it isn’t obvious. Diaz seems to be shooting a lot. And no topspin jump serves from either of them.
