I'm tuning back in waiting for USA3 to play in half an hour. And I see CUB drops the first set to NOR2. As I wrote in another thread just now, this CUB team is so streaky. Looks like this is going 3, and CUB will probably win now that they're in gear, but man, you just never know what you're going to get from match to match with these guys. Just a sign of their inexperience. I would’ve thought the indoor venue would benefit them, and maybe it shows with Alayo’s blocking but it isn’t obvious. Diaz seems to be shooting a lot. And no topspin jump serves from either of them. OK, Alayo has Mol in a phone booth. Match running away from NOR in set 3.
Now Berntsen with an opportunity and can't get his high line shot to clear Alayo's block... he is reallly showing frustration.

Berntsen is sure complaining to the up ref a lot, but I didn’t see any questionable calls. Cuba thoroughly dominated Norway the last two sets. Cuba has added a guaranteed 460 points with the potential to add a lot more this weekend. If they can even just break pool I’d say they’re pretty much a lock for qualifying for Paris via points. It’ll be interesting to see if they make the trip to China next week and those Euro events next month.

So in about half an hour Cuba could be the only team fighting for spot 18 that is still in this event.
The reality is that CUB is the onlly team fighting for 18 that can compete with teams currently ranked top 12 or so. Elite 16 just isn't where teams 18-23 (other than CUB) are going to expect to get their points. There is Xiamen and Star Jablonsk.

On the other hand, that loss probably eliminated any remaining chance NOR2 had. They’ll have to go the Continental route now.

CHI keeping the serve on Chase. Maybe trying to wear him out, but Chase is a far better attacker than Miles is.

Nothing would make me feel worse about a cool hit I did than Travis saying a falsetto "yahtzee" to describe it

well, Mudinger digging themselves a deeper hole. Not that Treo will likely get out of Pool, and neither gain anything in Tepic, but Mudinger failing to beat the Grimalts... that's kinda embarrassing.

Funny when Travis couldn’t tell if the ball went over or not because of the endline camera angle he claims is so great and everybody loves. Sure would be nice they finally switched it.

I wouldn’t say embarrassing. The Grimalts are a far more accomplished team. But Mudinger should’ve won that match especially after winning the first set.

Not liking end line view is a bit of a tell that you’re not that knowledgeable about beach volleyball ?? discussed ad nauseum but end line view doesn't show set placement relative to the net. Doesn't show whether a ball landed in or out on the half of the court furthest from the camera. Nor is it clear when there is a trickle ace, or just a service error.
Why do you suppose that ... oH, IDK, about 95% volleyball matches, beach or Indoor, have cameras using side view, if end view is superior?
45 degree angle would be a nice blend of side view and end view on Quali courts that can have only one fixed camera.
Do you also prefer end line view in basketball, soccer, lacrosse, hockey and football? I'm sure that is a tell, but not sure of what. The only sport I know that is routinely end line is tennis, but in tennis the net does not obscure the view of balls landing in/out of the far baseline.. Baseball is also kind of end view, most of the time.

Did you even watch the match? Marco had one of the best matches I’ve ever seen him produce, he had Chase 2nd guessing himself the whole time. That’s not an easy thing to do, Chase is usually steady and responds well to adversity. “Not that Treo will likely get out of pool” - Are you a Chase/Miles fan or just an anti-USA FAN? Theo and Trevor just won in Guadalajara, they have a great chance to make it out of pool.

Those are my odds. I have Treo as the most likely team to finish last in Pool C. I would have had them favored over ESP two months ago but ESP has been playing well and seem to be ramping up for Paris. If they break Pool, great, happy for them. In my discussions of Olympic qualifying, it's all about probabilities, not about which teams I like.
You don't have to make everything personal. I root for them to do well in E16, I just wouldn't bet on them with money I could not afford to lose in an E16.

I’m not making it personal, I’m just calling out your BS. Why is it “embarrassing” to lose to the Grimalts? Because they’re a very well established, respected team? Because they’re an experienced team that has won many tournaments at the highest level? Because they’re an OLYMPIC team? They haven’t had a great start to the year but it is by no means “embarrassing” to lose to them. So choose your words more carefully before people start realizing you don’t know what you’re talking about.

There is a reason every volleyball coach sets their camera up behind the endline.
