Mudinger get George/Andre should they advance to Q2. That's a very tough draw, but no worse than Cri who get the Cubans in Q2. Failure to advance to MD would be the realistic ending to Cri's Olympic run. Cri need at least 5th in Tepic to keep hopes alive.
Treo much better off already being in MD. Assuming Treo get out of Pool, they can replace a low of 460 with a 600, further distancing themselves from Mudinger, should Mudinger fall to Andre/George in Q2.

Getting George/Andre is definitely worse than getting the Cubans. Though I think Evans/Budinger is a much better team than Bourne/Schalk

On the Road to Paris this week, Travis said he was going to China next week, which I assume means he's going with Tri and Chaim for the Xiamen Challenger. I suppose it's possible they'll also fly back to Brazil the following week in the hopes of getting into the qualifier for the Elite 16. But it also wouldn't surprise me if they lose tomorrow and call it quits.

Really excited to see how Miles and Andy look after quite a while away from international competition. Wouldn’t be surprised if they added some new plays to their tool belt as well.

Potential Miles/Chase vs Tri/Chaim coming tomorrow?? Evandro/Arthur withdrew and they’ll match up if it stays like this in second round of qualifier.

Menesh catch a break getting the WC, MEX, in their Pool. They do pull the Cubans out of the Q1 spot, but still any team that can't beat MEX, well, 'nuf said.

OK, Mudinger move up to 3rd in Qualis, as pointed out above, like to face the brothers Bello. Dodged a bullet there that Cri picked up. Cri v. Andre/George? Maybe 10% on that one.
wait a minute... let me check the FIVB site, cuz acrossthepond's site seems messed up right now. Yeah, OK it looked weird b/c why would the Q not have a full 16 teams? Why are there 3 byes in Q round 1??
Anyway, assuming George/Andre are still Q4, and advance, they go into Pool A, which will be a bloodbath b/c you don't expect the team entering Pool form Qualis to be the 8th ranked team in the Olympic Rankings.

Not sure who has the better Pool: Mudinger in Pool B assuming they advance, with Bry/Losiak and Carambula/Ranghieri as 2 and 3 seeds, or Treo in Pool C where the easiest competition would be Herrera/Gavira.
Carambula/Ranghieri didn't have a great Guadalajara, getting eliminated in straight sets by Popov/Reznik in Rd. of 16, so I'd pick Pool B as the easier. Herrera/Gavira took Evandro/Arthur to 3 sets in their quarterfinal loss.

A bunch of last minute withdrawals

Because seeding is already done for the Elite16 before Quali teams are known

Because seeding is already done for the Elite16 before Quali teams are known Sure but every team that is playing should have more points than Mexico. FIVB really goes out of its way to do things poorly. This basically gives the biggest advantage to the lowest seeded pool
