Wow, terrible call gives the set to the Dutch 23-21 in the second semi. That was CLEAN. to that we agree. Her shoulders were perpendicular to the attack, it came out clean, came out quickly, there was no redirection. I am dumbfounded by that call.

Huberli/Brunner really dominated Barbara/Carol in the first semi final. They’re playing great right now and haven’t lost a set in five matches. They’ve won Euro Champs, but never a high level FIVB event. Will this be their first? I think so. I would favor them over NED... by just a little. Huberli seems to have gotten past her under-performance in critical situations. Seems quite some time ago now.

A net touch is a terrible way to lose a 25-23 third set for bronze. Feel bad for Italy, 3 fourths and 3 fifths at the Elite16 level but they just can’t seem to get on that podium.

interesting 12-12 set 2 SUI v. NED, Kyle Friend just called Boermans "the best blocker in the world". ??

Stam getting in a funk, and both Huberli and Brunner missing on good sets. Set full of nerves.
Huberli needs to get lessons from Talita on absorbing a spike with two hands at head level. Huberli struck out at it with both hands like it was in incoming missile.

Brunner holding this team steady. Huberli still playing nervous. 14-13 Huberli drops off for no reason and Schoon smashes it.

after such a letdown in Guadalajara, what a finish for the Swiss!

after such a letdown in Guadalajara, what a finish for the Swiss! Maybe playing that extra tournament down the road as a warmup was a key to their success whereas most other teams didn’t bother.

OR someone did't know they had to sign up to be elegible as a Lucky loser, or someone failed to imform them, or something like that. They kind of things that shouldn't happen in a professional sport, but.. you know.
Lithuania's new coach is Gennady Samoilovs. I think he doesn't speak English and I wouldn't be surprised if he was a reason for the no-show. As for Finland that's a bit odd if they didn't show up for the lucky loser draw. On The Road to Paris, Travis said that Pavan/McBain won a coin toss with Finland. That seems to suggest that Lithuania didn’t show up to the meeting, and then Finland must have lost another coin toss to China2.

With Finland barely hanging onto the 18th Olympic ranking that coin toss could be a bad break for them. FIN with 6,420 points vs. Pavan/McBain at 6,380. And Lithuania at 6680 just barely in front of both.
