No, I think Olympic ranking points are a giant pile of garbage you may have mentioned this before, not sure, but I was checking back to 2012 which team that won the Olympics. Found that for London: GER who won the Men's Gold had not won a 4* or Grand Slam FIVB tournament either in the twp years before London, or after. Imagine your only top field wins were in 2009, none since, then Gold. In the four tournaments month leading up to London, they finished 4th, 17th (losing to Fuerbringer/Lucena), 9th, and 5th.
You and I have also mentioned here the general notion that a high finish at World Championships is more likely to be aberrational to prior finishes than any other tournament format.
Interesting too because unlike a lot of the surprising teams that basically luck into a soft draw, Germany beat the 1, 4, and 5 (they were 3). Huge turning point for Alison's career. He lost the third set 16-14, so basically a coin flip game. If that goes the other way, he is a two time gold medalist and I think would be seen very differently by history. The Emmanuel v Phil argument would also not be an argument at all.

Hi! how many more tournaments are there that can decide the fate of USA2 and USA3? The newer thread has more details: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/98864/olympic-beach-volleyball-rankings-updatedEspinho, Stare Jablonki and Ostrava are the last 3 events. Stare Jablonski (https://fivb.12ndr.at/tournament?tcode=MSTA2024&timezone=39) is the most likely shot for them to increase points, as they are both in the main draw and it's just a challenge so a lighter field. Both of the elite 16's have much stronger fields so it would take a pretty lucky run to get enough of a finish to get more points. Mudinger could still choke at the Norceca.

If Mundinger win Norceca - does that seal anything for them? or get tons of points? I dragged my hubby into this olympic race and he has tons of questions lhaha

Winning would give them an extra 80 points. This race could be 300 points apart, and the trailing team could get 4th in Ostrava with the leading team failing to break Pool, and the trailing team would pass the leading team. 4th in Ostrava would be very low odds, especially if it is another full field, but it is possible that the trailing team could have their best tournament of the year and win the Olympic berth right there on the sand, that day, just by winning their Quarterfinal match and losing their last two.
It will all be decided in Ostrava.

Even if we consider them the 2nd best team in the field, there is always a chance that they already play Cuba in the Semi-final and will only finish 3rd. I have no idea how the seeding will be done, but it can be quite adventurous in NORCECA tournaments.
