The new Perugia won the Supercoppa last weekend by taking down Trentino 3-2. Ishikawa had 20 points; Semeniuk had 15. Gabi had a fantastic game for Trentino! 20 kills (hitting over .400), 1 block, 3 aces. The next highest scorer was Flavio with 12 (6 kills, 6 blocks). Michieletto and Lavia were nonexistent. Rychlicki went down with an ankle injury during their previous match against Monza, so we'll see how long Gabi starts. I was utterly disappointed with Michieletto this summer. He seems to have plateaued |

Gabi Had a good weekend. I tuned into the semifinals late, and wasn't sure why he was on the court. He did not disappoint. I thought he would do well with Falaschi setting last season, but that was not the case. I hope he catches his stride ahead of the WCh next summer.

The LNV Supercoupe was a 3-2 win for Montpellier over Saint-Nazaire.
Jordan Ewert is back with SN. Rough night attacking, efficiency-wise (16 kills, 4 unforced errors, blocked 5 times), but was statistically solid in reception (54% pos, 32% perf).

It was a typical sloppy-attacking French match. I don't know if sloppy is the right word... but their attack efficiency percentages are always less than Italy, Poland, Russia.
Canham, Canadian who I don't remember being very impressive last season at Arkas, actually put the ball away at a high rate for St. Nazaire.
Ewert's squad will open the league in about an hour against Cannes (with a very similar roster to last year when they won Ligue B).

Cannes beat St. Nazaire in 5. Ewert was the best passer in with match with 74% positive and 26% perfect (both match-highs). He had 13 kills on 36 swings and was blocked twice.

This game 5 is crazy good and the end point block of Fornal is quite nice  I'm pretty impressed with the ZAWERCIE setter from Portugal. |

First set not going well for Zawiercie. Ensing on the court early for Butryn (hitting -.667).
Tavares has been a mainstay at Zawiercie since they started getting good after the pandemic. I always felt he got the short end of the stick at Piacenza.... he was about 22 when he got put into the starting role when the club was falling apart financially and Vermiglio left. He then paid his dues, led Tourcoing through promotion and got chances in Poland.

Isaacson gets his first win in Poland with a sweep of Bedzin.
Russell scored 26 in a 5-set win over Resovia. They should have finished it in 4. Kyle Ensing came off the bench in the first set and played the rest of the way, finishing with 19.
Tuaniga and GKS Katowice had a rough go against JW. He is still looking for his first win.
ZAKSA finally playing it's second match on Monday. They had postponements due to flooding.

No Averill in the lineup for Monza.
Gabi played pretty good again for Trentino. It wasn't as great as his performance the last weekend, but still decent. 12 kills and an ace while hitting .346. Both Michieletto and Lavia hit with high efficiency.
