Wow! I could only watch until the 3rd set, it was 2:30 in the morning. Love waking up in the East coast to a Hawaii win!

Glad they pulled it off. Should have been done in 4, but I'll take 5 on the first night of the season. The opener is always ugly until they get settled.

The crazy thing is there’s so much room to go up! This team will get better and better and I’m so excited. Looking forward to watching them gel with time.

I'm telling y'all! It's gonna be a breakout season for Caylen Alexander.
Can't wait to watch the replay. Might have to skip that first set based off of the scores...

Hawaii's serving was also pretty tough as they were consistently bombing area 5 and pushing those SMU hitters way back. GO BOWS! Hawaii's serve was the underrated hero here. They had a lot of serving errors but really brought it after the first set, repeatedly putting SMU off the net. SMU really only has one solid passer and they were able to take advantage. I didn't expect us to win the serve-pass battle but I really under-estimated Leyva, who was passing dimes in the middle of the match when they tried to target her. Caylen was just missing her serve long. If she started 3 feet more back, she'd be hitting that back line for aces all night!

Stella did her thing with 10 kills and only committing 2 hitting errors. If she can stay low error and even give Hawaii a few more kills a set then it could be a problem! It seems the past two years, we would kill for two pins that could hit over .200 at the same time! Now if we can have the other 4 hitters not hitting negative, they can win a lot of matches that way. We finally have two OH that can pound every ball. Mane had some impressive hits as well.

I'm going to give Hakas a pass this weekend since she just got back from 11 time zones away and hope she's just exhausted and out of sync. She's short with a low contact point so she's never going to be a kill/block machine so my expectations are limited. She can be a high energy type to lift the team. Hakas brings a lot to the team, but even last year, she had a hard time putting balls away. She's a very smart vb player, but her errors tend to be on the higher side.

Shime killed us in the beginning and then Tabron brought it on late. They were both so fun to watch. Hopefully SMU wins lots of matches this season.

Congrats Wahine, great win. Amazing match after a horrible set1 which no doubt was due to 1st match jitters and player inexperience. If someone were to tell me we would hit for .090 with 40 hitting errors and still beat a good SMU team I would respond like “what you been smoking bruh?” Great comeback win to kickoff the year but big improvements to be made. Mustangs are a quality team that lost a bunch of seniors that were replaced with solid transfers…good that we played them early this season cause you know they’re going to be tough. Our Middles’ play was a bit rough as expected as was RS pin play. Hope to see big improvements in these 2 areas va SD.

The more the match went along, the more Hawaii seems to take care of their side of the net. I can't wait for Tomorrow night vs SD. And cut their hitting errors in half, maybe?
