Western Michigan has played the toughest schedule in the MAC but are entering conference play on a 5 match lost streak that include losses to High Point, James Madison and UC San Diego. They will still likely finish 2nd in the MAC. Your point is well taken Dizzy!

Kitten came within a whisker of beginning the season 0-2, but was saved by Eastern Michigan’s reverse sweep at Kent State. In Oxford Ohio, Central Michigan put a beat down on Miami sweeping the RedHawks in just over 60 minutes spoiling the MAC debut of Miami coach Dan Gwitt. The rest of the MAC gets underway tonight and all 12 teams will take the floor. Biggest matches will take place in Kalamazoo where Buffalo battles the defending champion Broncos. WMU ran the table a season ago with an incredible 16-0 record and return 6 starters, however the Broncos enter tonight’s match on a 5 match losing streak with a 4-7 record, but tonight a new season begins and WMU starts playing for the “Big Money!” The Bulls are struggling as well with a 4-7 record after entering the season with high hopes and a host of international players. The other marquee match features MAC powerhouses Ball State and Bowling Green. The Cardinals enter the match 7-4 after playing a rugged pre conference schedule while BG has struggled at 5-6 with a challenging schedule as well. Below are Kitten’s predictions for tonight.
Ball State over Bowling Green 3-1 Western Michigan over Buffalo 3-0 Toledo over Northern Illinois 3-0 Central Michigan over Miami 3-1 Eastern Michigan over Kent State 3-1 Ohio over Akron 3-2

Kitten predicted the MAC was going to be tougher to pick than ever and that prediction is proving true. Kitten hit on 4 of 6 matches Friday night missing on Bowling Green’s thrilling bird fight victory over Ball State and Akron’s 3-1 thrashing over Ohio. The Falcons of Daniella Tomic, played relentless defense and served bullets in defeating an excellent Ball State team in Worthen Arena where Kelli Miller Phillips Cardinals very seldom lose. Akron simply dismantled Geoff Carlson’s Ohio Bobcats in Rhodes Arena proving the Zips are for real in 2024. In a marquee matchup in Kalamazoo, the Western Michigan Bronchos kept their MAC win streak alive bullying the Buffalo Bulls 3-1. Toledo had little difficulty in defeating Northern Illinois 3-0 and Eastern Michigan (2-0) swept Kent State (0-2). Central Michigan ran its MAC record to 2-0 with an easy 3-0 win over winless Miami (0-2). 4 matches slated for Saturday and Kitten’s picks are below.
Ball State over Bowling Green 3-0. Ohio over Akron 3-2 Toledo over Northern Illinois 3-1 Western Michigan over Buffalo 3-1

After one week Kitten’s MAC record stands at a paltry 7-5, the worst start in his illustrious career where he hovers over 80% correct on his MAC predictions. A win streak needs to start tonight when the MAC “Surprise Team” Central Michigan (2-0) hosts instate foe Eastern Michigan (2-0). The Eagles are off to their best start in years defeating celler dweller Kent State last weekend. With that said, EMU is a much improved team this season. CMU had no problem demolishing Miami in Millett Hall and looked good doing it. The other match features the remaining two unbeaten teams in Toledo and Bowling Green. Toledo absolutely crushed Northern Illinois with a double sweep on the Rockets home court. Kent State, NIU and Miami all appear to be in for a very long MAC season. The real shocker last week was Bowling Green’s two wins over Ball State in the Cardinals Worthen Arena. The Falcons left the Cardinals fans stunned after sweeping BSU on night 2 after winning a 3-2 thriller the night before. Below are Kitten’s predictions for Tuesday night.
Central Michigan over Eastern Michigan 3-1 Bowling Green over Toledo 3-2

Thanks to Bowling Green’s reverse sweep over Toledo on the Rockets home court and Central Michigan’s sweep over Miami, Kitten is riding a modest 2 match win streak and has run his record to 9-5 on the MAC season. Only 1 match scheduled in the MAC tonight and that match features an improved Akron team (1-1) playing at Northern Illinois (0-2). The Zips are coming off a split with former MAC power Ohio. Northern Illinois was swept twice at Toledo. The Huskies rest their hopes on playing the match at their little cracker box gym affectionately named Victor E Court, a snake pit that once was the toughest MAC venue to win in during the Ray Gooden coaching era. The Huskies are struggling this season with offensive firepower and not even Victor E Court can save them this season. Below is Kitten’s prediction for tonight.
Akron over Northern Illinois 3-1.

Akron’s thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over winless Northern Illinois (0-3) played on Victor E Court gave the Zips a huge road win and winning MAC record that now stands a 2-1. Both teams were at the top of their game especially NIU. The Huskies looked like a completely different team than the one that lost 6 consecutive sets to Toledo last weekend. The same 2 teams will meet again tonight in a match to close to call. 6 MACtion matches slated for this evening and a few barn burners are expected especially defending MAC champion Western Michigan (1-1) at Bowling Green (3-0.) Kitten’s record rises to 10-5 after correctly picking Akron’s win over NIU last night. Below are Kitten’s picks for Friday.
Ohio over Toledo 3-2 Ball State over Central Michigan 3-1 Buffalo over Kent State 3-0 Eastern Michigan over Miami 3-1 Bowling Green over Western Michigan 3-2 Northern Illinois over Akron 3-2

Does anyone know why Jason Oliver has been missing from the Toledo bench? Didn’t see him against BG or tonight against OU.

Kitten came within an eyelash of running the MAC table Friday night hitting on 5 of 6 matches narrowly missing Akron’s come from behind victory over upset minded Northern Illinois. Kitten’s record improves to 15-6 on the MAC season. The Huskies (0-4) had the Zips on the ropes leading 2-1 on Victor E Court but let the match slip away 3-2. Akron now stands tall at 3-1 after sweeping the 2 match series with NIU. In the showdown in the Stroh Center on the Bowling Green campus, the hometown Falcons pulled off a reverse sweep stunning defending MAC champion Western Michigan 3-2. BG leads the MAC at 5-0 while WMU falls to 1-2 with a rematch looming tonight in what would appear to be a must win for the Broncos. In another huge match, Ball State scored a monumental road win over previously unbeaten Central Michigan 3-2. It was a see saw battle from start to finish that could have gone either way. BSU moves to 1-2 while CMU drops to 3-1. Another barn burner took place in Athens where Ohio came back from a 2-1 deficit to shock Toledo. The Bobcats reside at 2-1 while the Rockets dip to 2-2. Final match to report was Buffalo’s 3-0 thrashing of Kent State. The Bulls run their record to 2-1 while Kent State succumbs to 0-3. 5 MAC matches scheduled tonight and 3 should once again be real wing dingers. Kitten’s predictions are below.
Western Michigan over Bowling Green 3-1 Ball State over Central Michigan 3-1 Buffalo over Kent State 3-0 Ohio over Toledo 3-1 Eastern Michigan over Miami 3-1
