Excited for this one. I expect the Badgers to come out swinging with some pent up anger from their loss. Definitely saw moments of greatness from them especially in the first set. By the end of the season I’m pretty confident they’ll prove themselves worthy of a top 3 team title. As for Texas, super excited to see all the new pieces in action and how they mesh. Love Mari, and of course Skinner will put on a show. Hope to see Whitney get a lot of playing time in the other OH slot but ofc I’m biased.

scheduled to fly from austin to milwaukee on saturday. both excited and nervous for the matches and now i will back out of the match thread slowly and vanish into the ether Sadly, Southwest just announced daily Milwaukee-Austin flights start next year. I am interested in going the other way. Never been to Austin, and I would like to go. Austin is our second home. Its a fabulous city. We spend half the year there and always find amazement with how great the people are in the city and the oodles of things to do in and around Austin.

I'm just hoping we take a set.💔 Sometimes it’s hard to realize in the moment, but it really isn’t about the wins and losses right now. It’s about showing improvement. I know the result last night was not what Badger nation wanted to see, but let me tell you, it was light years better than what I saw out of Texas opening weekend last year. But all year long they kept getting a little better and then a little better, until they put it all together in the Elite Eight in Palo Alto. Same thing here. Just look for a little more cohesiveness, a little better passing, a little better setting. Plus you have a couple of players with likely lingering injuries. That’s a part of what affected Texas last year. Asjia O’Neal tweaked her leg, and it just seemed to take forever for her and Swindle to get on the same page. Like in the movie “What About Bob?” baby steps. Baby steps! And who knows? Maybe it’s you consoling me and repeating my words back at me after the match. There’s no guarantees about what Texas team we’ll see. Maybe they look like a rec team that’s never played together before. I don’t expect that, but I sure didn’t expect it last year, either. I do know wins and losses matter here, so I’m not trying to downplay the importance of the match. These are huge for regional host opportunities. But outside of that they honestly don’t matter as much as showing continual improvement. I'm absolutely thinking about Texas's start last season when I remind myself to be hopeful. But we don't have the two best players in the nation like you guys did last year, so we have less margin for error. (we only have one of the two best!)

Looking at it now, Wisconsin has a hella tough schedule to usher in a freshman setter and a new system.

Charlie coming in the spring would've done wonders for them imo We experienced the same kind of issue with Ashley Shook. Not trying to manifest the same career for Fuerbringer, but Shook insisted on setting for her long time club to help her teammates get the best college option possible, so she ended up arriving on campus right before falll camp started as the only real scholarship setter on campus, and it was a definite problem. This isn’t apples to apples, but I remember that being such a bummer.

Looking at it now, Wisconsin has a hella tough schedule to usher in a freshman setter and a new system. I think the big names on their schedule ( Louisville, Stanford, Texas) have been in the works for a while with the showcases, and TCU/Baylor is a multi-year deal. And somehow them beating Marquette every year is a rivalry game. Unfortunately for the rest of the world it’s probably a good schedule to prepare Charlie and the team for conference season.

I think Texas could go with either Swindle or Carlson at setter and be just fine. They each have their strengths for sure. I’d like to see Lauenstein at OH2 because of her all-around ability. Wenaas against the big Wisconsin block makes me nervous, though she really looked good in the Semis and Finals when it mattered most. How Wisconsin could be so thin at OH amazes me.

Yeah we literally have too many middles and not enough OHs.

Tell us how you would have done things differently coach. After the Landfair drama and Acevedo choosing Minnesota, would you simply have gone into the portal to grab one of the dozens of Wisconsin-caliber outside hitters who were waiting around for "the call" from Wisconsin? SMH
