And how exactly in your apparently messed up mind am I confused? You don’t know anything about Karch as a coach, or why this move happened.

I spell it out in the thread about Karch getting the job. I was critical of the Hawks hire before you even posted about it, but it had nothing to do with a degree. When I was asked who was better, I said everyone on Speraw’s short list for men’s NT HC. Karch and two others were under consideration for that. Whatever your issue is with Hawks, your arguments against him are overly emotional—if you have facts, state them. But, you got your facts on the UoP degree thing wrong.

As I said, I view the degree thing as a way of potentially getting rid of Hawks - my dislike of Hawks stems from his lack of knowledge and the way that he treated guys on the team. He pissed off a lot of the kids and their parents by prying into their personal lives and the team didn’t trust him when he wanted them to do drills they had never done before, because of his lack of playing experience. There were simply much better choices for a Head Coach.

The University is not going to rescind this appointment because of the degree.

I agree, but I cal always hope! I hope the team does great, but if they do, I believe it will be because of having great players - not Hawks. As you say, time will tell. Just out of curiosity - why do you believe Hawks is the wrong choice?

Just out of curiosity - why do you believe Hawks is the wrong choice? I think I said it initially. I just think there are better choices. UCLA is the premiere men’s program, and I don’t think Hawks can out-Speraw Speraw, especially since he won’t have the connection/advantage of also being NT HC. So it makes more sense to me to bring someone who brings their own energy, system and innovativeness.

I don't think Hawks is a bad guy or a bad coach, just not at a high enough level for the program imo. You may have a different experience, but I've never had any negative interactions, and have never heard anything real negative from the coaches or programs that he has worked with.

I just heard from a major donor who said that the only reason that Hawks was hired, is because Athletics needs to cut team budgets across the board to dig out from debt left over from the Under Armor deal that fell through and that Karchy is making $100K more at the National Team. The salary UCLA is offering for Men’s VB is way under what Speraw was making, which was over $250K per year. So, 2 cheap hires - Foster and now Hawks. Apparently, everyone else turned down the crappy salary!
