All this talk of a 6-2 reminds me of the fabled 2005 Nebraska team, deep with hitters that didn’t leave room for a libero. 2 LS and 2 RS attackers that played 6 rotations. 2 MB that subbed with the 2 setters.
Was this the first and only time in NCAA history that featured this kind of 6-2?

Somebody will win a title running a 6-2 sometime soon. It's actually kind of unbelievable that it hasn't happened in so long. There have been some really excellent teams lately that have run a 6-2. Penn State, Wisconsin, Florida, etc...

Allick had 1 kill on 3 swings That kill came from a rally where she had 2 overpass swings, I do not recall the last one and I think it might have been another overpass swing which would mean Bergen completely avoided her 💀 That’s called good setting decisions, Allick has never been impressive offensively IMO. She can be a solid compliment though. And when Murray and Beason are tooling blockers at will it makes even more sense. Luckily the other middle is the best in the country lol

okay go ahead and have a melt down. That post wasn’t about Nebraska. It was about that Penn state team having a very good chance at a championship with q 6-2. Pitt and Wisconsin have both been close to championships with 6-2s recently. You’re moving the goal posts now. Your original point wasn’t JUST that nobody had won one with a 6-2 yet but you’re changing it and now having a freak out session about Nebraska 2017 bc I said Penn state very likely wins if they didn’t trip. Which btw argue all you want. You can’t deny it was pretty likely Penn state converts that free ball with Washington front row there. Guaranteed ? No. Likely ? Absolutely. So anyway. (And pls don’t bother only responding to this about the 2017 match bc you’re mad that isn’t the point) This is an interesting discussion (regarding the 6-2 vs 5-1). Do you think if we could take VT back in a Time Machine we would be arguing the merits of the 4-2 vs the new fangled 6-2? e.g. “that extra attacker is getting in the setters way!” Could a team win a national championship running a 4-2 if they had amazing players to run it? That being said, it seems to me that the 6-2 takes away two of the most effective plays in women’s vb - the slide and the setter dump. Granted, the volume of setter dump plays pale in comparison to the slide. It would be interesting to see a statistical analysis of the success rate (W-L, hitting %, blocks, etc.) of D-1 teams that have run a 6-2 since the 5-1 became a thing. Technically running a 6-2 doesn't preclude you from running a slide - in fact, you could run two slides (one with the MB, one with the RS). If you really wanted a standard slide offense, you could just have the RS be a glorified blocker and move out of the way in offense. Edit: Just saw the post crediting Louisville's 6-2 slide.
