Best Game of the week. I know Nebraska and Oregon match up, but these two squads are carbon copies of each other.
Both lost their leading scorer from last season (Cooper/Levinska)
Both have two senior undersized outsides (Bien/Elnady and Cyr/Cromartie…Bien and Cyr are literally the same person)
Both have breakout senior middles (Onabanjo/Jeter)
Both have scrappy liberos (Burns/Shroll)
Both have great senior setters (Turner/Ung)
If you look up and down Big12 volleyball stats you see these two squads side by side a top the exact same categories. This includes hitting percentage, assists, kills, and opponents hitting percentage among others. This will be a back and forth match between two veteran, elite squads. Arizona State is the home team so that gives them an advantage. While Kansas played a tougher non conference schedule, Arizona State has played the tougher Big12 schedule.
One advantage Kansas has is in blocking. Kansas leads the Big12 in bps while Arizona state falls at 13th. Since Kansas inserted Reese Pateck in the middle, she has really helped increase the blocking for Kansas. Both Kansas’ middles average over a block per set. Kansas needs its block to show up. Kansas usually struggles against for physical teams with good blocking. Well Arizona State isn’t the most physical team. Two similar teams, you have to use your advantage.
Once again serve and pass will win or lose this game. Both of these teams pass very well. However, Arizona state leads the Big12 in aces while Kansas is more middle of the pack. Both teams need their offenses to be effective, neither really has that junk ball hitter thats gonna get a bunch of high balls. They need to control the serve and pass.
For Kansas, London Davis has to be difference. In big games like this she needs to come through for Kansas. When she’s hot it opens up Kansas’ whole offense. Im excited for this game!

To your last point, there is a small chance we don’t see Davis this game as she got tangled up with a WVU player at the net last game. It didn’t look major, quite frankly they didn’t need her, and she was still standing on the Kansas bench the rest of the game after set 1 - but something to look for early as that would be crushing for Kansas to have her out this game.

Pablo has #7 Arizona State with a 65.6% chance of beating #10 Kansas. ASU would have a 59% win probability on a neutral court.

is there a reason why espn lists this as 7:30CT but everywhere else has 8pm?

Is Elnady back starting? Bien back row for Swanson? These are game dependent. The default is Elnady and Bien playing 6 rotations and Swanson replaces either if necessary. Swanson is so physical on the front row (blocking) - and is capable if one of the OH is having an off night hitting. Either can trigger her coming in.

I love Kansas and currently, they are the better team but I have a feeling ASU will pull through.
