BYU has got to go! There’s no world where they’re a top 25 team. At this point I’m convinced the LDS are paying off the AVCA BYU and Florida State in my opinion. FSU doesn't have a single ranked win and has lost to multiple unranked teams.

Surprisingly, it's on par with recent seasons. Elliott doesn't like scheduling a ton of games. (I'm pretty sure he's said he wants FEWER conference games, but don't tell the Bracketology thread that 🙃) I've brought this up a few times here over the years and have gotten a lot of excuses about how tough they schedule. But Nebraska has 31 games on the schedule, compared to Texas' 24, and has 5 more ranked matches than Texas. I mean, maybe it's the extra rest that's allowed them to lift those trophies, but it still feels a bit cheap. (and before anyone comes for me, I'm not discounting Texas' talent or coaching) Sounds like you’re using the same excuse as in the past as well, whenever Texas was making it deep into the tournament but not winning it all it was because the Big 12 didn’t prepare them enough, and now when they’ve won it back to back it’s because of the same reason. It’s also easy to stack up a lot of matches in the non conference when you schedule only cupcakes.

I'm simply saying they're one of the only teams playing that few matches. And again, just using Nebraska as an example, they had Kentucky, TCU, SMU, Creighton, Arizona State, Stanford, and Louisville on the non-con schedule, with a few cupcakes in between as experience builders. You can schedule tough and still play as many games as your peers.

That means you're ranked? Okay. Wisconsin lost to NE...and even though they played horribly it wasn't a blow out. Whatever you think is best should be manifested if you argue vociferously enough, often enough. 🙄

I mean, maybe it's the extra rest that's allowed them to lift those trophies, but it still feels a bit cheap. (and before anyone comes for me, I'm not discounting Texas' talent or coaching) I think the number of conference games is the biggest reason for the difference. Big 12 only had 9 volleyball teams for a while, so playing everyone twice was only 16 games. SEC only has 16 games this year too. Texas can't really control that.
They could fit maybe 2-3 more non-con games in. I checked some other schedules and it looks like a lot of top teams play 9-10 vs 8 for Texas. I honestly expected there to be a bigger difference. I also saw that Texas used to play around 10 non-conference games, but they moved away from hosting tournaments and have done more home-and-home arrangements. I think Texas has traditionally scheduled tougher in the non-con than most teams, but that may not be the case anymore. Maybe we'll see them go back to more non-con games in response to that.
