Seems hard for the committee to justify Stanford over Louisville when I’m looking at the nitty gritty, other than maybe that Louisville played and lost to the Pennsylvania juggernauts three times while Stanford only had one matchup. Otherwise L’ville wins Common Opponents, SOS, RPI, and has no bad losses. Wins and H2H are a wash. Louisville would have more total losses.
It’s a shame the ACC didn’t know before scheduling that SMU was actually their 4th top tier team rather than Ga Tech, but I hope they keep this schedule going forward because it makes the last week extremely hectic.

I think the SMU rise to brilliance this year was kind of hard to predict. I knew they'd be good, but I didn't expect them to be this good. They should plummet just as fast next year, with their entire starting team graduating.
It will be interesting to see who is fourth best in the conference next year.
There seems like a lot of room for new blood in that ACC spot behind the top three with GT also having a big turnover, losing three critical starters. Heloise should easily replace Luanna at setter, but there isn't anyone on the current roster that looks like they can adequately step in for Tamara and Bianca at OH. GT seems to be in good shape in the other court positions. For me, besides OH, the biggest question mark in my mind is what happens with Lara?

SMU has a VERY, VERY wealthy alumni. With NIL, they are only going to get better in every sport. You probably aren't as old as I am but I remember the days of SMU football when they were the best team money could buy.

I do remember that football team.
But that was long ago. A better comparison would be with last year, before they came to the ACC. They were nothing special.
It's kind of funny. If the ACC keeps basing conference schedules on presumed power at the start of the year, and the top group continues to be a foursome, whoever gets tagged as the #4 team is less likely to end up there in the final standings as the best team in the middle group.
At this juncture, I would not pick SMU as the #4 team next year.
[checks] FSU loses a lot next year too. Miami and UNC seem to take fewer hits from seniors moving on. We have to see how the recruiting and transfers go. It's too early to tell how this will work out.
Edit: Actually SMU did all right last year. I guess my memory was more of the year before that.

Purdue / Oregon is kind of a play for a seed match at this point, no? Maybe. Unlikely scenario of Purdue beating Oregon but losing to USC/Washington would be interesting

SMU parlayed a tournament appearance and giving Texas a good show into becoming a transfer destination for this current team. My suspicion is they get even more from the portal with the success of this season.

My suspicion is they get even more from the portal with the success of this season. Honestly, SMU's move to the ACC (a P4 and a top 2 volleyball conference at the moment) almost certainly played the biggest role. If they were still in the AAC, I don't think they would be nearly as attractive a destination for transfers or recruits as they are now.
