Yes, Engle was setting the second ball in transition at the end of the match, which is how Destinee Hooker was able to get four straight kills, two of which were Engle assists. There should be a new poll: When a 6'3" lefty is jump-setting a 6'4" high-jump champion OH, what does the opposing coach tell their blockers/defenders to do? I will study the tape. I don't recall that she was jump-setting -- at least not to the point where it was affecting UW's block.

Well, this is just sad, if true, because I was sitting in the front row, with Engle right in front of me. You all have made me doubt my powers of observation.
Although, in my defense, I couldn't really see UW's left-side block that well, what with the ref stand and all.
What I DID notice was Destinee hitting the ball high over the tape, as she had been doing earlier in the match. She was not doing that for a long stretch there in the middle of the match.
Interesting that Elliott returned Engle to the front row in game 5...

Add Marisa Main to the mix ... probably the most offensive-minded of the top setters...

Main is very good, I love Kehoe, but she needs to shake some rust off to be the best, she didn't have the best match against UCSB. SO for now I will go with Thompson, such a competitor.

Uh, yeah I have to wonder about putting a person in the poll who lost her starting job. Clearly not even the best setter on her team, much less the nation. We haven't even seen the other one. Replace those two with Marissa Main and maybe that Santa Clara girl. Also ask again in about 6 weeks.

"Yeah, she is good, however Engle at the end of the game 5 was amazing."
Her sets were impressive, but Moriarity was so consistent the whole weekend. Against Wisconsin, 5 players had 10 or more attacks, the middles combined to hit .739, and as a team Texas hit .325. Against Washington, 7 players got 10 or more attacks, the 3 best hitters that night(Armstrong, Hooker, Acevado), were set the most(those 3 recieved 2/3 of all the sets).
"I think Engle has more potential to be the best setter for that team."
Well based on her height, hitting abilities, and ability to attack on 2, of course she does. But even though Engle had 3 great assists, Moriarity had 64 assists, set a very balanced match, and was the leader on the team.
"While I agree that moriarity is an excelent setter I don't think she is a top 10 setter right now."
If there are 10, let alone 5-6 setters(not players who set, but pure setters) better than Michelle, then I'll be shocked. Moriarity has a good chance to be an AA this season if she continues to play like she did in Madison.

Interesting that Elliott returned Engle to the front row in game 5... Indeed, as soon as the last point was down my first thought was, "Heyyy..... wait a minute. Did I just see a Texas team not collapse under pressure and fight back from a deficit?" My second thought was "Heyyy..... wait a minute. Didn't Hooker make those last four points on kills?" And my third thought was "Heyyy..... wait a minute. I wonder if Elliott is smart enough to have put Engle and Hooker together on purpose?" I think the Engle/Hooker jumpset/kill combination over the next four years will prove to be even more lethal than the Larson/Elmer jumpserve/overpasskill combo was last year.

The first rule of VolleyTalk polls is: all VolleyTalk polls end up being a referendum on fan support "homerism". Exactly.

Why isn't Samantha Carter from Cal mentioned in the list?

Why isn't Samantha Carter from Cal mentioned in the list? She's good no doubt but not as good as: Kanoe (Hawaii) Courtney (Washington) Bryn (Stanford) Angie (Florida) There you go, my top 4 setters this season...very athletic, aggresive, hands, guick, court awareness, etc. Hard to pick 1 favorite cause they're all the best to me. Kiah Fiers will be definitly the next top setter.................maybe Carico...(USC).....
