It works for me in the manner referenced by JT. Minnesota beat Cal Poly Cal Polly beat Texas Texas beat Washington Minnesota is therefore the top team in the Pac-10 now.

What about UCLA, USC, and Cal--who are all still undefeated? And since Oregon is also undefeated still, one could probably use your transitivity trick to show Minnesota would rank below Oregon in the Pac-10.

Gee, from all the things I'd been reading in the various threads on VT it seemed that the majority assumed that Washington will be the best Pac-10 team again this year. PS: I did say I liked the argument based on JT's comment.

It seems odd to me that a team can stay in the Top 25 with a 40% win record.

Washington's still putting itself back together after losing most of their starters. I think even Washington fans would be surprised if they finished on top of the Pac-10. I know I would be.
I kind of like the Minnesota argument too. ;D
BTW, I presume you're referring to Pepperdine? It seems they're being dinged less because all of those losses came to higher-ranked teams.

Yep. But it's time for Pep to beat someone again. Cal Poly was a good win, of course.

Not sure what your point is, but Minnesota lost to Louisville and TAMU -- both outside the Top 25. The AVCA pays attention to such things.
Stupid NCAA.

At the time of the MN loss, Louisville was ranked 20.

PS: I did say I liked the argument based on JT's comment. Actually, the Pac-10 only picked Washington to finish 3rd in the Pac-10. It's the rest of the country that still has a little too much hysteresis in their brains. Yes, I knew you were just kidding about the transitivity argument, which can probably be used to go full circle and show a team is better than itself.

At the time of the MN loss, Louisville was ranked 20. Yes, but all of Pep's losses are to teams _still_ ranked above them. And if you're going to use that logic, LSU was not ranked when the Gophers lost to them.

Now, any similarity between Pablo and the AVCA is purely coincidental, and luck on the AVCA part. Classic.

I think any of those 5 teams are capable of winning the Pac 10. I'd be surprised if Stanford didn't take it though. Sure they looked like crap against BYU (and slightly like crap against Hawaii), but they always pull things together when they have the talent. There's really no reason for Stanford not to do well this season if they remain healthy. Behind the Cardinal I think it will be Washington. Their new starters are bound to pick up their games.

I think the poll is pretty accurate. I especially like that a team like Baylor got some votes after such a strong start.
