The one illogical item about JT's assumptions is "had to fall". Go back to earlier in the year when Cal lost and rose in the ranks. Still not sure how OSU drops 2 spots in the rankings while splitting during the weekend. WI loses 2 matches and only drops one spot. Cal's loss was to Washington, a team ranked higher in the AVCA poll at the time. Apparently the AVCA voters think there's no dishonor in that. Wisconsin's losses were to PSU (no dishonor there) and OSU. That should have been only a minor blemish on their record since OSU was ranked just below them, but no, OSU had to go and lose to Minnesota, a full 10 positions lower in the poll. OSU slipped, and the voters couldn't bring themselves to let Wisconsin rise in the same week that they lost to OSU. Does it make sense? Well, as a matter of logic, no. As a matter of human nature, I'm afraid so.

I think this position in the poll is great for the gophers, mainly because the underdog usually has an advantage. The gophers then have less pressure and still perform great. If they beat Purdue, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and possibly Penn State at home they probably won't make it into the AVCA top ten. These wins then give them enormous confidence, and the poll gives them low pressure and some purpose in the final tournament. They will then want to prove their true status by playing with extra motivation and fire. Hopefully this will become a reality.

Interesting and weird poll this week.
I'm glad to see my Aggies back in the poll but, quite honestly, it makes no sense to me whatsoever. Perhaps some of you who are better versed in all this can explain it to me.
We get to #22, hit the road and lose to Nevada - whom has never been near the poll this year unless I completely missed something/my memory is failing. We drop out of the poll to #26.
We come home and play UTEP and win in 4. (Should have been 3 but don't get me started.) We hit the road again and play LA Tech and win.
This week we're back in the poll. I love my team and want to see them succeed and be a great team. How in the world did we get back into the poll? We're home for 3 this week - No. Arizona, Hawaii (can't wait for that one) and then UNM...which we beat earlier this season.

I can't say i'm too suprised with Hawaii at #11- due to the fact that 4 teams above them lost. I mean this is how the AVCA works(for the most part). Basically I echo what some have said which is that the AVCA mainly promotes ppl to due to default(other teams above losing). I'm not sure why anyone's grumbling.... you know what? i'm not suprised at all- the same griping happen every single season. Polls schmolls... . NMSU at #26 is kind of funky, but like I said above, they only moved up by default.

Is Tech really that good of a team? Not playing all starters in that particular game? ...and what's up with can't wait for Hawaii thing? Why is it that everytime everyone(esp. NMSU, UNR) is always "can't wait for Hawaii?" ---Never mind I know why....but still c'mon yall! It's just a regular volleyball match!

And Hawaii's losses are to #3 UCLA, #6 Stanford and to underrated #8 Florida. The loss to Cal Poly was a wash as Hawaii beat them also. Now, who did the Beach lose to? I thought so too. ;D A wash, c'mon seriously. If Hawaii played a series with IDK Virginia Commonwealth. They were upset the first night, but still won the second night. Would you still call it a wash? I hope not. Regardless of wash or not, you still can't deny the fact that they lost to Cal Poly. Nothing you can say will or ever take that away(unless the NCAA does something similar to them as they did to CSI- where they forfeited most matches). A loss is a loss. The NCAA committee will not ignore it as you seem to have. ...though I guess using the NCAA committee as an example doesn't say much because they tend to screw Hawaii over regardless(even if they were to have gone undefeated).

Nothing at the outset reflects how hawaii is today. This Hawaii team is stronger than what people like you disbelievers believe, ironic aaronic.

By the way next year the Wahine are going to repeat as champs and go undefeated.

Irony has always been one of my favorite literary terms- which is why I infused the word itself into my name. Hense aa-ron-ic.

We won in 4. And the reason I said we can't wait for Hawaii is that I enjoy watching them play. This is going to be a huge challenge for our team after last year's showing against them when we took them to 5 twice.. It's nice to see our team go up against them. Yeah, it's another game but to be in the WAC and facing teams that will actually challenge us is an amazing thing. Hawaii is an amazing team. To me, it's the highlight of the season to have Coach Shoji and crew in town. I only wish we weren't still at the gym.
