I'm not big on rankings for sports either. But in the NCAA this pole is taken into LARGE consideration. So it means something as far as seedings go.

I'm intrigued to see that a few more voters are shifting their first-place votes from Nebraska to Penn State. They don't have many common opponents, so what's that about? Feeling like the Big Ten is stronger than initially reported? Feeling like the Big 12 is weaker? Just getting tired of Nebraska up there?

Great bump by the Gophers. Nice to see. Now the hard part is continuting to playing well and beating all of those lower-ranked teams (and unranked teams). The second part of the Big Ten is not going to be any cakewalk.....Revenge will be on the minds of many, and we can't look by anyone, esp. the Michigans, Northwestern, and, of course, the ranked opponents. Wonderful rebound from a tough preseason. Lookin forward to Ohio St and Penn St this weekend. Great points. I think the second half will be harder than the first. It's critical that the Gophers stay focused every match.

Utah has no bad losses. Only lost to USC and Florida, on the road in 4. they did something that Stanford couldn't in beating BYU at BYU.
Who had Cal beaten to remain in the top 10 for so long? It's less about who you beat for this poll as opposed to who you lose to.

would anyone be surprised if these were the top 8 seeds for the tournament? 1. Nebraska at 8. Texas 2. Penn State at 7. Florida 3. Stanford at 6. Washington 4. UCLA vs. 5. USC at Hawaii That wouldn't surprise me at all. Don't count Cal out just yet. Wait till Hana is back 100%. And LSU may be this year's Tennessee. For all we know, those you mentioned above will be meeting on the second round. Hawaii at Texas last year, remember?

I actually do not care much about rankings (as for any other thing that has absolutely subjective matter) but what has Utah acomplished so far in order to earn #9 other than beating BYU? Apparently those who say the main concept is to penalize not to award have a good reason. I brought this up last week. The longer they stay up (where they probably don't belong), the more people are going to notice. They haven't beaten ANYONE of consequence, and I don't think they're scheduled to play anyone of consequence. WAAAY too high.

By the way, for the Big 10 and Big 12 fans, wasn't there a Big 10-Big 12 showdown before? Or did I dream about it? Like pitting the best teams from both conferences?
Was just wondering about it, since I see both conferences have placed a lot of teams on the Top 25.
Who do you think will win these matchups?
No. 1 Nebraska vs. No. 2 Penn State No. 8 Texas vs. No. 12 Minnesota No. 16 Missouri vs. No. 13 Purdue No. 20 Oklahoma vs. No. 14 Wisconsin
I think Nebraska and Penn State is a toss up. Minnesota may be favored against Texas. Purdue easily against Missouri. Oklahoma may beat Wisconsin.

I think Penn State would come out on top. Their outsides can block better than most especially against Pavan and Stalls' slide. And they put a great block against Larson. Not sure that Pavan and Holloway can contain Hodge and Fawcett.
No way that Minnesota can hold down Hooker and Engle. If Texas blocks the way they did the other nite, it would be a 3 game sweep.
UM and Purdue is a big toss-up, not sure which team would show up for either of them.
Wisconsin has the talent and ability. But I'm not a fan of Simpson, I don't think she makes good decisions. Oklahoma may win in 5 at this point.

Wisconsin already beat Oklahoma.
And, as you can see from cbrown's response, Minnesota is still not getting the respect they deserve (although I too think Texas wins).

By the way, what has Engle done so far to strike fear in the heart of anyone? She's going to be a very good, maybe great, player. But so far?

...(although I too think Texas wins). Hey, don't ruin my fantasy. Of all people, you don't have trust on your team. Have you seen how much they rose these last two weeks? Pretty soon, you will see your team on the top 10, especially with a good showing agains PSU.

Don't count Cal out just yet. Wait till Hana is back 100%. She claims that she's pretty much back - at least physically. She's still not as agressive on attack as she was at the start of the season. She might be afraid of reinjury? The real key to Cal possibly coming back into the top 10 will be Mindi Wiley and Kat Reilly. Morgan Beck is doing an admirable job playing middle (most of the time) but her real position is at one of the outsides. I'm not sure what's with the modified rotation, but I think it's so that Natalie Smart can get the full libero sub and so Beck can play back row. Also - watch out for Cal's not so secret weapon - Am'ra Solomon. I know she's been injured a lot while at Cal, but she was really bringing the heat on Friday night (I know that was Oregon State).
