I'm not quite as impressed with Courtney's setting. Don't get me wrong, I agree with many things you said. I agree that she is the catalyst for this team. I love her die-hard attitude and ethics and I hope she continues to improve because I would love to see her on the national team with that attitude and commitment!! At the moment though, particularly after watching UDub play USC last night, I still think she has a way to go in terms of set placement. She's good, no doubt, and has the fire there. So I think she'll get there in time. Courtney Thompson blows my mind with how well she sets. I know there are some big hitters out there that put up some impressive numbers, but Courtney Thompson is the catalyst on the returning national championship team that lost some huge hitters. She has amazing hands and great court awareness. Thompson gets my vote!!

Kaczor 340 4.66 107 773 .301 21 0.29 1.75 0.71 5.35 As much as I would love for Kaczor to be in consideration for POY, I doubt she will be in the running. Maybe next year, when she might improve even more, and grown more comfortable. I know it was just one match, but Kaczor looked terrible last night. In game three, when she was on the bench, I kept hoping they would put her back in.

Kaczor hasnt really been stepping up in the key matches. I dont think she deserves a POY nomination.

Hodge is the new focal point of PSU. Look for her to be 1st team AA and National Frosh of the Year, btu not POY.
I'm guessing Barboza or Pavan. depending how far they go.
I believe when Teee Williams got POY, she might have been a freshman. She only played 3 years at Hawaii.
Bev Oden got it as a sophomore in 1990, and Cipero as a soph in 2000. Otherwise, juniors and seniors have dominated the award. This year, with so much young talent, it could be a sophomore award.
I pick Pavan, though.

What? No mention of Hawaii players? And which player do you think from Hawaii should.... Oh, I forgot about that week when Houston beat up and the 134th and 160th ranked teams. She had good numbers that weekend. Yes, she should get it.

You know I was holding my tongue on this one until someone else mentioned her name. Below is her stats...Good stats but not enough for POY oh and also total team performance dont warrant her that honor...however she is a legitimate 1st All-American and by far the best setter this season...I dont know what setter out there can do what she does with crappy passing from her teammates Kamana`o, Kanoe 0.61KPG, .311KPCT 13.58ASPG 2.45DPG 0.79 BPG

Meriwether is playing great this year and must be seriously considered for POY; the award has to take into account the impact of the player on their team and the competition. If playing around is a criterion that is like saying that an AL pitcher can’t or shouldn’t be MVP because they don’t hit? It always comes back to impact on the game. Meriwether definately is a contender for POY...i totaly agree on the impact this player has on her team...there is no way UCLA would be where it is if it wasnt for her presence in the middle

Merriwether is the only one of the candidates with really eyepopping stats, but I don't see her getting it. I think Barboza and Pavan as well. Pavan will get it because of the body of work over the last three seasons. Fair or not, that is how I see it.

I think if NE makes it into semis, Pavan gets it. Barboza is still young, and this is Pavan's last shot at it.
