Although she doesn't play all the way around, you have to consider Nana Merriweather also!
4.04 kpg hitting .480 1.77 blocks per game 5.01 points per game

Morrison has performed similarly to the above, and leads the pac10 in kills: 4.72 k/gm @.301, .38 sa/gm, 2.89 dig/gm, .78 block/gm, 5.56 points/gm.
As for potential setters Thompson does well leading the nation(by a wide margin) with 14.75 assist/gm, .34 block/gm, 2.57 dig/gm, .27 sa/gm.
Spicer is another, don't know her stats though...

I can't remember a time when the award went to a middle that didn't play backrow no matter how good they were.
Houghtelling 2005 RS/OH Nnamani/Gordon 2004 OH's Willoughby 2003 OH Tom 2002 OH Tom 2001 OH Cepero 2000 S Caciamani/Walsh 1999 MB/OPP Caciamani played more like an OH playing all the way around and hitting backrow Misty May 1998 S Misty May 1997 S Lungdquist 1996 MB? Again played backrow and attacked like an OH
Middles will never get it on hitting eff. alone because it's easy to hit .350 or .400 if you are one on one. The fact that Merriweather has 4.?? kpg is impressive if she is not hitting out of the backrow.
Forgot about Morrison. She is a good bet also

Kaczor 340 4.66 107 773 .301 21 0.29 1.75 0.71 5.35 As much as I would love for Kaczor to be in consideration for POY, I doubt she will be in the running. Maybe next year, when she might improve even more, and grown more comfortable.

Sophomores are rarely in the running (if ever), and I don't know if one had every won POY as a sophomore.

Cepero was a Sophomore the year she won it! Too bad that was when she peaked but it was an impressive year for her.

My take it's between Pavan and Fawcett. Seen them both in person this season, awesome! I'd have to give Pavan the edge if I had to choose. She's lethal from everywhere on the court; at the net, 10 foot & service lines.

I really don't think Fawcett is in the running, she doesn't play all the way around, and doesn't have the best numbers on her team. And is a sophomore.

Cepero was a Sophomore the year she won it! Too bad that was when she peaked but it was an impressive year for her. The only other sophomore to win it was Teee Williams in 1987. She also shared POY honors with Tara Cross in 1989.

I think Merriweather will get serious consideration for POY. I really pray that they don't hold her not playing in the backrow against her, but unfortunately they probably will.
On another thought, she probably won't get any consideration for National POY and is overshadowed in the conference by Pavan, Jessical Van Der Kooi should (but probalby won't) get serious consideration for Big 12 POY. I have loved this girl since I saw her as a freshman. She is so competitive and one of those players that steps up every time you need her. Even in their losses to Nebraska over the years I always thought she was one of the two best OH's on the floor. If I recall Wed. match she has 62 double doubles in her career.

I hope Merriwether gets some consideration. UCLA is much improved this season and she is one of the reasons for it. Pavan is also right up there, the volleyball community loves her and if Nebraska stays successful this season, I think she has the best shot to get it.

Courtney Thompson blows my mind with how well she sets. I know there are some big hitters out there that put up some impressive numbers, but Courtney Thompson is the catalyst on the returning national championship team that lost some huge hitters. She has amazing hands and great court awareness. Thompson gets my vote!!

Meriwether is playing great this year and must be seriously considered for POY; the award has to take into account the impact of the player on their team and the competition. If playing around is a criterion that is like saying that an AL pitcher can’t or shouldn’t be MVP because they don’t hit? It always comes back to impact on the game.
