You know I was holding my tongue on this one until someone else mentioned her name. Below is her stats...Good stats but not enough for POY oh and also total team performance dont warrant her that honor...however she is a legitimate 1st All-American and by far the best setter this season...I dont know what setter out there can do what she does with crappy passing from her teammates Kamana`o, Kanoe 0.61KPG, .311KPCT 13.58ASPG 2.45DPG 0.79 BPG Actually I was under the impression she might not even earn All-America honors this season. I mean her team isn't doing that great, lost its first conference match in 8 years, and her statistics are below even last year's numbers. Granted none of the above are really her fault, as the passing has been horrendous and she's been battling a hip injury for the whole season, but I kind of wondered if the NCAA would take that into account. I mean last year they dropped Paula Gentil completely off the list after she had earned All-America honors her first three seasons, even though she was still averaging well over five digs per game and was still one of the best at her position, despite battling nagging injuries, much in the same way Kamana'o is right now. I guess its tied to how well Hawaii does in the postseason. If we can make the regionals she'll probably get 3rd team honors, maybe 2nd. In order for her to get 1st team I think Hawaii will have to make it to the final four or the elite eight at least.

If Pavan would get Player of the Year, that would make two Naitonal Players of the Year on the same team in 07. Has that ever happened before???

I am guessing Pavan will win it unless the Huskers go down early in the NCAAs. She plays all around, which is an advantage over Meriwether and Fawcett, and her team has a good chance to make it to the time the award will be given out undefeated, unlike the two Huskies and Barboza.

And which player do you think from Hawaii should.... Oh, I forgot about that week when Houston beat up and the 134th and 160th ranked teams. She had good numbers that weekend. Yes, she should get it. Your bashing of Hawaii's opponents is getting real old. Take your comments and stick them, moron! Not really bashing Hawaii or its opponents, just the AVCA for thinking she had the best performance that week. Thats all...

BiK...that's what you get for calling Mick Haley a "cheater"...it's called karma, get over it....
and for what it's worth and I know I'm a Trojan, but Nana Meriwether has to be on the short list for POTY...her stats speak for themselves...

Well, it looks like it will be Pavan, or one of the Washington girls. Barboza has a shot, but being a sophomore might influence the outcome

How about somebody out of the "common" list, say Shonda Cole? 5.79kpg, 0.313% 0.45 assists, 0.36 apg, 2.00 dpg, 0.76 bpg

I think Merriweather will get serious consideration for POY. I really pray that they don't hold her not playing in the backrow against her, but unfortunately they probably will. On another thought, she probably won't get any consideration for National POY and is overshadowed in the conference by Pavan, Jessical Van Der Kooi should (but probably won't) get serious consideration for Big 12 POY. I have loved this girl since I saw her as a freshman. She is so competitive and one of those players that steps up every time you need her. Even in their losses to Nebraska over the years I always thought she was one of the two best OH's on the floor. If I recall Wed. match she has 62 double doubles in her career. I would question anyone who didn't consider Vander Kooi as Big 12 POY. Though I'm a Mizzou fan and am obviously biased, I feel confident that she's had a better season so far than Pavan, as far as team contributions. However, Missouri won't do so well in the Big 12 and that contributes a lot to these designations.

O_rly, Pavan has lead her team to an undefeated season, has the numbers and had clutch play in close games and matches. Vanderkooi is a super player, but absolutely will not win POY. Do you think the Big 12 coaches prepare and spend the same amount of energy on Pavan and Kooi?

Well, it looks like it will be Pavan, or one of the Washington girls. Barboza has a shot, but being a sophomore might influence the outcome Perhaps Barboza is a great player but as I said last year when it was suggested that Pavan should be POY, it doesn't say much about Division 1 as a whole if the POY is a sophomore. Surely there are juniors and seniors out there with more playing experience and better credentials ( not just stats) capable of winning the POY. Let's also hope that after Gordon winning FOY in '00 and POY in '04 and Pavan's FOY in '04 that the selection commitee is not tired of having Canadians win the major awards.. ( ie JD and Lukas, though in another context,I know)..

I am against Canadians winning awards, unless their last name is Carlini. ;D

Not really bashing Hawaii or its opponents, just the AVCA for thinking she had the best performance that week. Thats all... She had good numbers that week. There was nothing wrong with the choice. If you'd pay attention you'd know that the AVCA is very subjective in who they pick as AVCA POw. There have been many POW's from lesser known schools who don't compete against top 25 competition.

The POY will come from a final four team. This is usually true unless you have someone like a Stacy Gordon who you just can deny. Pavan is the frontrunner at the moment.
