Didn't Berg leave the national team not to long ago?

I want to see former Badger Marian Weidner there as an interpreter, since she speaks Chinese and once listed that as her dream job in a program or media guide.

Thanks, Bucky. I love your idea of having Marian Weidner as an interpreter. She's the best.

This is why I never log in to this website. No real discussions ever happen. Its just a bunch of know nothing's making ironical comments which would be allright if they would sometimes act serious when someone starts a new hot topic. Come on people this is international volleyball in this discussion, its nothing to laugh at. It looks like you never logged in here for 1,769 of your posts. If you're not having fun, log off and leave the rest of us alone to have all the fun--without laughing, of course That's all? Just 1,769?! Wow, I thought I was up to at least 1,7 93 by now. I guess I need to start picking random discussions and posting replies that are basically one-off complaints that don't require me to generate any actual content.

Hello... what about Haneef. She is a for sure starter for Bejing. If you haven't seen her play since the Olympics, you would be surprised at how much better she is. She is such a better attacker on the left side. I think she is only going to get better.
Most of the positions are a lock (barring injury) except setter and Left side.:
Middles: Bown and Scott Right side: Metcalf (Maybe Busse... if she continues to improve) Setter: Ah Mow and hopefully Berg if she decides to return. Left Side: Haneef, Hopefully Tom, Willoughby?, Barboza? Nnamani?
The biggest challenge will be picking the Left sides.
The problem with Nnamani is that she is another Haneef.... all offense... but weak defense and passing. USA can not afford another player like this. They certainly can't have both players on the court at the same time. I don't see Nnamani being about to improve her passing that much in two years. It just isn't natural for her. I hope she proves me wrong.
I can't see more than one current college player being able to make the team.

The outside hitters or lack there of is a huge concern for the next Olympics. While Haneef has improved her game every year, she doesn't possess that jack of all trades type of outside hitter who can play great defense, can serve, and can hit. She has to be set up in order to get her 6'7'' frame to cooperate. While a lot of people have had their doubts about Logan Tom, we've seen that there is simply no other outside hitter on her level in the US right now. Wilkins, Collymore, Crawford, and others are light years away from Tom. I'm hoping that there will be some sort of second coming of a Keba Phipps type player. While everybody has been talking about developing the youth, I think the current college level players aren't quite as good as the players have been in the past five or six years and there are many players who are playing professionally who are older but would be much more effective in the short term.
It'll be interesting as well to see who Lang Ping chooses to take as the second setter if Berg doesn't return. There is a huge drop off in terms of experience and talent between Berg as the second setter and any other option would could be tough for the team but on the other hand great to give experience to another younger setter. Angie McGinnis isn't at that level yet and will need a few more years before she could make the team.

The top top volleyball talent will not play for USA Volleyball because the incentives aren't there. It's like asking a Ph.D rocket scientist to work at McDonald's for "national pride".

True - USA Volleyball needs to create an atmosphere that will attract all volleyball players and then keep the best players in a truly competitive arena working to keep thier spot on a team that represents USA....

Both can play defense, lethal jump serves, and great back row and front row attack.

i wanna see only the west coast players to be the starters and only players in the western leagues to fill in the rest of the positions and complete the roster there should be no other players in the natl team especially the choking (choke king) losers frm other leagues if the usa team would want to win any medals
leave the losers in their own loser leagues like the midget12 the homunculus10 the sec & the rest of them

I think Haneef has made good progress since the 2004 Olympics. Seems like JLP has been a good influence on her. I think she'll have her spot on the team. It would just be nice to have other back up options for players that can pass and hit. Barboza and maybe Larson. If Tom doesn't come back, then we need Willoughby definitely.
