there is no such thing as east usa team the only reality in vb is that west coast and western players (regardless of where they were born or come from as long as they played or are playing in the west) are winners the rest are worthless GOOD LORD how many of you guys post under this name? its funny how the style of writing changes from this poster from time to time. each time though it always seems to resemble certain VTers who have been around for a while, hmmmm... i just want to clarify that i never hate i only dislike and there's a mjr difference between the two it's apparent that my dislike for the midwest leauges(it's really like an xtended education for the eastern leauges) and the eastern leagues is uncompromising i only admire excellence and these leauges are nowhere near mediocre @best i've always been a winner and thus will always be part of winning whether i partake in the process or bare witness to it it's simple excellence is the only thing that matters everything else is for losers

What should Lang Ping do about the outside hitter positions for Beijing? I think the current crop of players she is using is not going to cut it. I just don't see them elevating their game to where it needs to be. Haneef could work, if she were relegated to a very small serve receive roll.
What are the chances that she could get the best college players (Barboza, Larson, Fawcett, Hodge, Klineman etc) to start traveling/training with the national team? Would they be willing, if they had a shot at playing in the Olympics? Would they have the time to develop into the kind of players we need to be competitive?

I agree with v-tx about the College Players. The USA needs to pick atleast 4 players that they can invest there time and money on ( like paying for a 4 yr College terms after Training ) other wise we will continue to Lose alot of Good Players to the Beach Game., More Money, No one trying to take your Position on the Team, Domistic Tour's and most of all "NO COACHES"its Opptional. It's a once and life time chance, don't you think that they would take it Thats something that i would do... " Barboza, Larson, Fawcett, Hooker" my picks...

I'm sure if cardfan15 had his/her picks, it would not include Wilkins after today's game against China!

I think the appropriate question is which players want to go to OTC to train to compete for a spot on the national team at the 2008 Olympics?
Hell, even some of the top pro players (Tom, Sykora and more recently Berg) are dropping out of the program! A good gauge will be which collegiate players and veterans will show up at OTC next spring/summer.

I'm sure if cardfan15 had his/her picks, it would not include Wilkins after today's game against China! I never watched Wilkins play in college, so I don't really know about her past abilities. The thing that frustrates me most about Wilkins/Haneef/Crawford is that they really are trying they just aren't at the level needed to play OH in international volleyball. That's what makes it hard to watch. All 3 are good vball players, just not good enough. And the fact that they are all USA has right now makes it even worse. The embarrassing thing is I watched the match with some Chinese vball players and they consistently commented on Wilkins/Haneefs/Crawfords inability to pass. How do you respond to that? There IS NOTHING to say, change just needs to happen. Its that simple. Nothing against Wilkins/Haneef/Crawford, they are probably great people. Just not great international OH's...and thats the truth.

You can't put Hooker in the mix for '08, she can't pass, we would be in the same boat as before.

I'd like to see Willoughby, Tom, Nnamani, Kamana`o and Zartman. I hope Lang Ping continues bringing two liberos to the trips.

Looking at their stat sheets it looks like if they could even just get 1 passer/hitter, they would be in a much improved shape. Both middles are hitting 40s and 50s and Metcalf looks like a stud hitting high 20s and 30s all the time. Doug keeps mentioning transition scoring opportunities in his journals so while the passing it seems could improve, so could swinging at a high ball on the left.
