This match is on FCS Pacific now. UCLA's court is driving me crazy. Really a second class set-up with a blue curtain as a back-drop. The Wooden Center is as a nice a place to play volleyball in southern California but they do not use it anymore....a shame.

I don't understand why that is done.

Pauley looked great with all those fans for a vb match last night.

Unfortunately for UCLA, the U$C match is about the only decent draw that they have in volleyball....Stanford is an Ok draw, but U$C is obvioulsly the big rivalry....last year at the first round matches, LBS turned out more fans than UCLA had at the match!

USC played a disgusting match. I'm really disappointed in the girls. On the flip side, this is probably the best I've seen UCLA play all year long. They were serving and passing to perfection and their outside (who usually struggle) were able to terminate w/ consistency. For the Trojans, the player most off her game was Taylor Carico. I'm not certain if she was nervous or just had an off night, but she had a really poor performance. Her location was off. Her choice in setting was poor. She was slow to reach the ball to set (which is a sign of nerves). She had no deception. She rarely attacked the ball. When she was up to block, she was repeatedly burned by the attackers time and time again. She never made the adjustment to take away angle when Spicer would shoot her sets to the outside and Daley or Carter would ALWAYS crank cross court. (*oh but let me add that she doesn't set the ball as clean as Spicer, but she doesn't double as much as some posters have complained. There's some folks unfamiliar w/ volleyball who think that spin automatically equals double contact. it really depends. Taylor gets way less spin than setters at the international level. Her contact w/ the ball seemed fine, everything else was wrong.) From one of the articles, I think it's clear that Mick wanted to use this match as a chance to learn and grow because if this were a match of even greater importance, I think he would have yanked Taylor by Game 2. USC always had a really weak serving match. Only Copenhagen was able to give Bruins some problems. Kaczor's serve drew a few errors, but it was negated by service errors. Tennant didn't have her normal success. Taylor and Gysin just served up lollipops. It grossly contrasted to the Bruins serves which skimmed about a foot above the net. Gysin struggled w/ her hitting again. But I was most disappointed that she shanked some of her passes. Copenhagen wasn't great. Most disappointing about her was that she doesn't seem to know how to hit high hands. Her hits were always drawing the soft block leading to an easy opportunity for the Bruins to transition. I'm also baffled to why Alli Dillon gets subbed in for Kaczor and is in to pass. I think I've only ever seen her deliver one accurate serve receive. Why don't Gysin and Seilhammer just enter a 2 woman serve receive. Or why doesn't that other DS girl (i forget her name) come in for her. I realize that Dillon is more natural at the right back, but I've hardly seen that prove worthwhile. The only Trojan to shine was Seilhammer of course. It'll suck when we lose her next year. I will tell you this. Barring injury, Zoe Garrett will definitely start in the middle. Lauren Williams and the returning core of MBs can compete for the other spot. These current starters are slow and they do not have the best instinct. Well, despite this negative post, I still believe that USC can do well in the post season. They just need to learn from their mistakes and make the necessary adjustments. They have a lot of talent.

I don't think so, I think it makes the match that much homier. You feel so close to the game. You're right there.

At Maples, 'SC's passing on serve receive was awesome, TC could stay put and she set everyone... and 'SC's side out scores for their first two games were 16-4 and 9-4 (the third game was a more normal 10-8). It would seem that disrupting 'SC's passing... which Stanford did at the Galen Center and UCLA did at Pauley... is a key to beating the Women of Troy... not easy, because Debora Seilhamer is so good, but she can't pass everything, can she? I remember a few matches Stanford played against UCLA where it seemed that Chrissie Zartman could pass everything.
