Wow I'm surprised Houston got it. I thought Mason had a better overall tournament (kills, digs, blocks, aces), but I thought for sure Kamana'o would get it. In any case Congrats to Houston!!

Congrats to the Wahine on another WAC championship After the way NMSU beat Idaho yesterday I was worried about this match. I hope they can keep up the intensity/emotion for the NCAA's.

Can't believe Houston got MVP ~ no offense to Houston, but I'm SOOOOO tired of the high flying- hard hitting player being recognized because the kills they do get are impressive ...how about the REST of her play?
Kamana'o should've won MVP, Mason should've been on her heels for the award. Houston should've been applauding from the side.
Same thing happened in the Regionals at Florida in 98. Jenni Keene earned the MVP with better all-around stats and complete game during the Regionals, yet big bombing Jenny Manz wins MVP (even though she was SHUT DOWN by Hawaii and was subpar in earlier Regional matches that year.)
Can we stop being soooooo impressed by a hard hitter?

I thought Kanoe or Sarah would get MVP as well. Oh well, congrats to Jayme.
Amber is really stepping it up. She was a huge asset to Hawaii this tourney.

Hey, I know how you feel. I thought Mason would get it because of her all-around stats BUT Houston had better matches hitting-wise (more kills for a better percentage) and I guess that's the usual attraction to volleyball - those "high-flying, hard hitting" players. I mean, Hawaii won and I'm happy. Jamie did her thing and so did everyone else. It was a team effort. Congrats to the Bows!!! *please don't let up and keep the intensity throughout the ncaa tourney - thanks*

For the WAC tourney: Houston - 57K, 19E, 131A = .290 Mason - 49K, 14E, 117A = .299 If you throw in all the other elements of the game, Mason was the better choice.

does it really matter at this point who got individual hardware? i'm guessing the girls care more about team hardware...... Yes, it is a team sport, but they DO recognize individual performance and it should go to those that are deserving. To me it's indicative of the US problems in international volleyball. We are SOOO enthralled with a player that can jump high and hit hard, that we forget to notice that the other player on the court that doesn't jump as high or hit as hard actually put up similar hitting numbers. So why take the high-flying, hard hitter that can't pass ... when you have a player that is equally as effective attacking? Especially when that player is better in all other facets of the game? In a season such as this, where we now see what a difference a player like Boogaard can make, it should be even MORE evident that we should reward the all-around player ~ especially if her attacking numbers are equally as good. Forget the hype, take the efficiency!

Mason averaged 4.40 digs per game for the tournament and Houston with a 2.30 dig average for the tournament.
In all honesty as much as we're comparing Mason and Houston, it really should have gone to Kamana'o. I thought she set one hell of a tournament, constantly giving her hitters good sets. Plus her blocking stats were unbelievable this tournament 17 blocks for an average of 1.7 per game, just phenomenal!!

I agree with you (as stated in a previous post) that Kamana'o should've been MVP, with Mason on her heels. The only reason Houston won was because people are always impressed with big kills.
