What about Kelsey Bowers of Florida? Pretty solid stats if you ask me. Maybe not a 1st team pick but perhaps 2nd? I am really liking Sarah Mason's chances of earning a 2nd/3rd team pick She needs to get her hitting percentage up about 15-20 points and she'll be a guarantee shoe in with her all-around game. About Kanoe Kamanao, she is making the most of what she gets from her passers. I think that as a team, Hawaii must increase their hitting percentage in order for her to garner 1st team honors and they can do this by advancing deep into the tournament. Otherwise, Kanoe will be a 2nd team pick. Most of the 1st teamers you picked are excellent choices.

Aren't the HM "picks" merely the entire All-Regional team rosters?

Aren't the HM "picks" merely the entire All-Regional team rosters? There's a catch. Someone on a regional HM list might be named AA (pretty much 3rd team so far) but if they're not, they don't get named to the national AVCA HM list. Anyone who is on a regional team but doesn't get AA honors goes on the national HM list.

Exactly. One year Shelia Shaw from Wisc was a Forst Team All Region pick, but didn't make the AA team. Jill Odenthal was a HM All-Region pick, but was a 3rd team AA. Her play in the NCAA tourney had a lot to do with her getting the nod.
And yes, those who make the All-Region First team list but don't get named to one of the 3 teams become HM listees.
Nothing against any of the players, but the HM list takes away from the elite distinction of being named an AA.

I would expect Tracy Stalls to contend for 2nd or 3rd team AA this year. Her stats include 2.67 kills/game, .430 hitting % and 1.40 blocks/game.

I also expect Holloway of NU to be an AA.

I think Florida gets 3, maybe 4 amongst the 3 AA teams, if they decide to include Cusack. McGinnis 1st team, McCray probably 2nd or 3rd team, Bowers probably 3rd team.

Honestly, I am thinking McCray HM. I can see Cusak and Bowers both on the 3rd team, Angie a 1st team lock, and McCray HM. Not agreeing with it, but that's how I predict it will fall out.

I guess we'll know soon enough. I know she doesn't play all around, but I think it would be wrong to overlook Amber's numbers. I think they are too good not to at least make 3rd team.

I'm hoping that this is the year Angie Pressey gets 2nd team AA. If she doesn't get 3rd team AA then something is seriously wrong with the system. I thought maybe 1st team when she was hitting .350, but that sort of dropped after Pac-10 play. Here's a list of some Pac-10 leftsides with more than 3.5 KPG for comparison. There are other Pac-10 players who have decent stats but I doubt receive strong consideration.
Barboza 4.31 KPG, .260 hitting, 3.01 DPG. Richards 3.76 KPG, .225 hitting, 3.14 DPG. Morrison 4.80 KPG, .276 hitting, 3.19 DPG. Pressey 4.46 KPG, .273 hitting, 2.70 DPG. Newcombe 3.60 KPG, .212 hitting, 3.00 DPG.

Richards does not deserve anything but 3rd team this year if that!

Richards does not deserve anything but 3rd team this year if that! However - there are some people who keep mentioning her for 1st team AA this season. I think it's a real stretch, but Keao Burdine got 1st team AA in a year where she hit under .240.

The NCAA home-stretch has a lot to do with it. Keao was a big, big reason why they made the FInal Four, and I think had 30 kills or so in the regional final. Same for Cassie Busse in 2003. Was 3rd, 2nd at best, then had a monster run to lead her team to the FInal Four and got 1st team nods, with the numbers to back it up.

Keao was money when it mattered. There's a reason she was the final 4 mvp 2 years in a row. The girl got it done when it mattered the most.
