Now that all of the conference teams have been released, time to speculate on the 12 First Team All Americans that will be announced in a few weeks. I know NCAA performance will dictate some, but I think these 11 are a lock. Having trouble with a 3rd:
Foluke Akinradewo, MB, Stanford, So Cynthia Barboza, OH, Stanford, So Asia Kaczor, Opp, USC, Jr Megan Hodge, OH, PSU, Fr Jordan Larson, OH, Nebraska, So Angie McGinnis, S, Florida, Jr Nana Meriwether, MB, UCLA, Sr Christal Morrison, OH, Washington, Jr Sarah Pavan, Opp, Nebraska, Jr Nellie Spicer, S, UCLA, So Courtney Thompson, S, Washington, Sr

That is a very good list to start with. No Libero to add to that list really jumps to mind this year. It seems a little MB thin, but there are only 11, maybe the 12-14th will be MB's?

And you did notice he left off 2K, right?

Dana S. And you did notice he left off 2K, right? 2K making the 1st team requires Hawaii to advance to round of 16... I'll wait for that to happen to make her case. I think that we hold Libero's in different lights, Ruffda.

Nice list-can't argue at all with any of them. Can't remember the libero's name from USC, but I watched her on TV and was very impressed. Emilie Toone from Utah is having an incredible year at MB.

Kanoe should be on that list.

Kanoe should be on that list. While I think that Kanoe is the best setter in the country right now, I think that her making the 1st team is solely dependent on Hawaii making the round of 16. Anything less, and she drops to 2nd.

I don't know about 1st team, but I hope Amber McCray gets some AA recognition. She's had such a great year on the right side and even with a bum shoulder, she has become the go to attacker for the Gators. Her numbers are certainly AA worthy.
I do hope there is at least 1 libero on one of the AA teams. It'd be a shame to overlook that position, as has already happened on some of the all conference teams. That position is as important as any on the court.

Anything less, and she drops to 2nd. HI made the round of 16 last year, and her stats were better than her sophomore year. But she still dropped from 1st to 3rd team ... go figure...

I agree with IB, although I do think Hawai'i has a great shot to make it back to the SSC for their regional. Kamana'o has had to deal with injury and bad passing for a good portion of the season, but the Wahine continue to overcome primarily because Kanoe is such an incredible athlete. She is the best setter in the country and should be a first teamer.

which brings up an interesting point. what do they use, exactly, to determine 1st team setter honors? Which is most important. Is it assists? Team hitting percentage? blocks, kills, digs? are they looking just at assist stats or all around?

isn't it also performance against ranked opponents?
... which is what propelled Houghtelling to the POY honor last year.
