Regarding Houghtelling's injury, I never recalled hearing about knee surgery. I heard about her shoulder surgery and it will most likely take a full year to heal. Volleyball requires full rotation of the shoulder joint (called the labrum) and in the beginning, it might be a little sore/tender. I think Chris will have to alter her swing a little, to help with the healing process and give her shoulder time to work it's way back to old form. About her knee, I think knee injuries are the hardest injuries to come back from (especially acl! ahhh... ). When I thought about my surgically-repaired knee while playing sports, I tended to compensate for it (putting more weight on and pushing off of the opposite leg) and became extremely tentative (being overly aware of my knee) It's like a car accident. Driving is enjoyable until a you get into an accident. Then you become a little more cautious and careful. I don't think Chris's knee surgery was anything serious - I saw her run to her team mates and jump and down with no problem. Could've been the adrenaline If she commits to therapy (like Cyn from Stanford) and works hard to get her shoulder back to form, I smell a successful campaign from the Huskers in '07.

My sports medicine physician gave me 2 options on my rotator cuff injury: rehab thru PT then see if it heals if not opt for surgery. However, he said that there is a chance that surgery might not fix the injury and that I will have to go extensive rehab for a long time. So, I opted for PT!

Wow. You were lucky. My sports med doc told me "YOU NEED SURGERY - PHYSICAL THERAPY ALONE WILL NOT FIX KNEE". So I had surgery. It was a long process of rehab but I think it was worth it in the end. PT is the Devil.

Are Houghtelling's injuries harder to return from than Barboza's acl injury from last year? A shoulder is a much more complicated body part than any knee....knees only bend in one direction, shoulders are much more complicated as you know!

PT, will NOT repair a torn rotator cuff.....no matter how much of it you do....it may get better, but depending upon what your physical activity is you can survive w/o surgery.....if you are not in great pain or discomfort when sleeping and if you don't wish to do anything physical with your arms, such as play any kind of sports requiring the use of your arms then PT may be OK....otherwise you are just putting off the inevitable.....and remember one more thing: The older you are at the time of your surgery, the worse the prognosis will be due to your body's ability/inability to rehab based on your age at the time of rehab!

YOu do not want to have a shoulder surgery if you are a volleyball player. Many if not most do not recover 100%. I would want to have a knee injury over a shoulder injury any day. Christina's knee surgery was minor, just cleaned her up.

Unfortunately, in 2001 that also was at the time (in my opinion) the most talented Husker team to step on the floor. (Both MB's were in the top 10 nationally, two top 10 OH's, and the returning POY in the most important position). We know what happened with that team. I am hoping in this case history WILL NOT repeat itself. I did like that 2001 team too with Holmquist, Cepero, etc.; though Barboza will be a JR(right?) and Stanford will be getting the numero uno recruit in AK next year.... I mean it is kind of reminicent of Stanford's '01 team, but who knows if Barboza is as good as Tom was in her JR year...

Barboza won't need to be a good as Tom was, because 07 Stanford's supporting cast is much stronger and more experienced than '01 Stanford.

I think they lose on a neutral floor 3 out of 4 times.
