California Kickoff 2007. I saw the 18 Open division at Hangar 12 in Alameda, at the former Alameda Naval Air Station. It was a former aircraft hangar and wasn't heated; It was under 50 deg F when it started early in the morning. As such, people were watching covered with blankets. I even saw a few players calling lines wearing blankets.
Just from my list, here were the college coaches I noticed there:
Ruben Nieves - Fresno State Devin Scruggs - Nevada Dustin Moore and Matt Lyles - Santa Clara John Dunning - Stanford Tom Hilbert - Colorado State Mick Haley - Southen California Dave Shoji - Hawai'i Steve Walker - UC Davis Jose Gandara - Washington
I saw a LMU Volleyball jacket but don't know if it was a coach. I also saw a Boston College logo, and I think that might have been their head coach.
I've heard these things are crazy. It wasn't all that disorganized. Most people could figure out where the bathrooms were, and the concessions and merchandise areas were located near the entrance. Parking wasn't too bad. I left early to go to the Washington at Cal men's basketball game.

Well, I recognize Mr. "Am I not turtle enough for your Turtle Club?" ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) , but the other guy is too close to the edge of the picture for me to identify. I am guessing the second fellow, who is only barely there, is Jose Gandara? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ?

Seen at Maples (yesterday) and Burnham (today): Dave Shoji. He looks good wearing a Stanford Cardinal shirt!

I had absolutely no idea what his name was so I looked it up on the UW website. I knew that wasn't Leslie Tuiasosopo. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Few humans less enthusiastic than girl volleyball players calling lines at a club tournament. My favorite was Halloween when the varsity girls kept their costumes on calling lines at the JV contest.

junior boys calling lines are equally un enthusiastic. I saw one dummy lay down on the floor between games pretending to be asleep. Idiot didn't realize that the next game was ready to start...I don't think as he had his eyes closed.... till the down ref went over and gave him gentle kick in the ribs.

apparently ball control was a major factor. Emerson/Shelby will get THAT fixed in a hurry!

The Kickoff was very cold. All day long. I cannot imagine the extremes that the players will be competing in all season long. It won't be long until we all start posting about the lack of air conditioning in the facilities!
The GB 18 FF team made some bad mistakes at the wrong times- the end of the game. It happens. Luckily, this was a tournament that has no real "weight", except for their own team's purposes.
Like the previous poster, I am sure they will address this quickly. At times they looked unstoppable. But then they stopped themselves. As usual, this FF team is a lot of fun to watch!

It was freezing in the gym. Thankfully, Hanger 12 is not a regular site for tournaments.
GBFF finished off game 1 pretty solidly when Murrey came in, and they were up by several points in game2 before they had some passing/communication issues.
When they were getting the ball to the setter, their hitters were hard to stop.

Speaking of Costco, 'fess up if you like sampling their free food!
Did you realize that the quality of the free food samples vary depending on the Costco location? For example, here in the Bay Area, it's fairly decent. But down in San Luis Obispo's Costco, it's first rate gourmet variety. Unbelievable!

Just speaking of the facilities at the former Alameda NAS, apparently "Hangar One" is a brand of vodka. That was the name of one of the buildings they used for their distillery/warehouse.
