HONOLULU - Two University of Hawai'i student-athletes were honored in a ceremony Thursday at the State Capitol. Former Rainbow Wahine setter Kanoe Kamana'o and Warrior quarterback Colt Brennan were both presented proclamations from Lt. Governor James "Duke" Aiona for their outstanding achievements during their collegiate careers. Aiona officially proclaimed August 9, 2007 as Kanoe Kamana'o Day in the State of Hawai'i, while also declaring August 16, 2007 as Colt Brennan Day. Both days fall of the respective student-athlete's Birthdays. "We are here today to honor two outstanding student-athletes from the University of Hawai'i," Aiona announced. "Kanoe has excelled on and off the volleyball court as a scholar-athlete and a four-time all-American, and finished her career as one of the most decorated volleyball players in UH history." "Colt Brennan has just completed one of the most prolific performances by a quarterback in NCAA history," Aiona said. "He completed more than 72 percent of his passes, threw for 5,549 yards and 58 touchdowns, and posted an NCAA record 185.96 pass efficiency rating." Kamana'o completed her eligibility in December. Brennan announced his plans to return to UH for his senior season at a press conference last month. uhathletics.hawaii.edu/pr.html?prid=14394&p=100

"We want a proclamaition honoring Colt Brennan saying that he has to be here in August, so he won't go to the NFL."
"Are you nuts?, he's a registered sex offender. Of everything that happened with the Colorado football program, he is the only kid they kicked out of school. Its one thing to make him the face of our football program, but how could we possibly go on record as endorsing him?"
"Uhm, ok, I can see where you are going with this. What if - oh this is good - we honor KK, a classy young woman, repeat All-American, home grown hero, and we do it the same week?"
"So we can honor one of the great young Hawaiians of our time, and keep our starting quarterback, without getting the media all in a dither? Sounds like a win-win to me."

From the Honolulu Star-Bulletin: starbulletin.com/2005/06/26/sports/story1.htmlUnless you've got some different source of information, you might want to be careful about what you say about people.

I didn't realize there have been several Lilo & Stitch sequels/movies until I went to Blockbusters the other night. Wasn't the original enough?

Apparently, it wasn't. At least, that will keep you busy on Kanoe day. Or you should just wait for Cayley day.

From the Honolulu Star-Bulletin: starbulletin.com/2005/06/26/sports/story1.htmlUnless you've got some different source of information, you might want to be careful about what you say about people. As an SU alum I know the school forced our coach to withdraw a scholarship offer because of the unwanted media attention that comes with having a registered sex offender at quarterback. I wasn't completely joking, there was a previous article (below) and I didn't realize that the case had been revisted. Bottom line is, I honestly wonder if KK, who does deserve this, would have gotten this honor if Mr. Brennan's past were more pleasent. Congratulations to her and I hope young Mr. Brennan has become the person that you seem to think he is. "BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- A former Colorado quarterback has been found guilty of unlawful sexual contact for barging into a woman's dormitory room and fondling her until a friend came to her aid. Colt Brennan, 20, was convicted Thursday of second-degree burglary and first-degree criminal trespass. He could face up to 12 years in prison at sentencing on Nov. 19, and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.Authorities arrested Brennan after a woman said he drunkenly barged into her dorm room just after midnight on a day last January. The woman said he put her on her bed and began fondling her, until a friend came into the room and she was able to escape. Brennan was found innocent of indecent exposure and criminal attempt to commit sexual assault. He told police the woman invited him to see her new dorm room earlier that evening, and he believed that to be an invitation for sex. He denied touching the woman."

I didn't mean for this thread to turn out this way, but why does this have to be rehashed everytime Colt Brennan is mentioned. All of this is old news, the football coaches knew about this when they recruited him, but they believe in giving people second chances, and so far it's worked out very well.
I personally thought he should have gone pro, he would have been a first round pick and gotten all the $$$ that come with that. He really loves Hawaii though, one of the main reasons he gave for coming back was to thank the coaching staff for giving him this opportunity when no one else would.

I didn't know the information about Brennan. Whatever, either way. There are a lot of football players with worst pasts that are playing as heroes in the NFL as it is.
Kanoe truly is deserving of this and would likely have received similar recognition with or without Brennan accompanying her. She's a true role model in every sense of the word and a person that Hawaii can be proud to claim.

Kobe had an extramarital affair, but it hasn't kept him from being on the All-Star team. Hugh Grant keeps getting jobs despite the prostitute incident in the '90s.
Stars overcome their troubled pasts. Colt's gf wouldn't be with him if she had any doubts about him.

There is no shortage of women who knowingly date jerks, cheaters, and abusers.
