Tama is just a digging and passing machine. She dugged everything UCLA was firing. Amazing defense being played by Washington. UW played like champions out there tonight against Spicers offense. The only problem that UCLA had was passing!. They sucked really bad at passing. Poor Nellie had to try to make the the best of the passes and did a fine job at it. I'm a really big fan of Nellie Spicer. It will be very interesting to see tomorrows matchup with no.4 USC and no.5 Washington. Can't wait till tomorrow guys. GO HUSKIES!

PAC10 is the preeminent SPORTS conference? One of the top certainly, preeminent? No.

it still amazes me that it's one of the top or THE best conference...and we still get the kind of officiating that makes you shake your head.... It's a good old boy network.

My $.02 on the match. UW seemed to be on cruise control throughout. Very businesslike, with a few rough spots here and there, but you never had the feeling UCLA could seriously challenge.
Much has been said of UCLA's defense this year, but it didn't seem to match up with UW's at all. Maybe the lack of blocking is putting too much pressure on the back row. UW is turning into a great serving team and had UCLA out of system a lot.
Spicer is indeed phenomenal with her location and tempo, even with shaky passing. It's really fun to watch her play. But also give some credit to Hagglund. She's not flashy, but really runs the show well for a freshman. Tama was being Tama. UCLA had some success when they served around her, even though she was passing ~ 2/3 of the court. They picked on McAfee pretty successfully.
Overall, UCLA either had an off night, or just isn't in the same tier as UW.

PAC10 is the preeminent SPORTS conference? One of the top certainly, preeminent? No. Actually, I agree that the PAC10 is the "preeminent" sports conference. That is, if you think of the word "preeminent" like the word "premature" - which means "not really mature at all". In that sense, the PAC is most definitely pre-eminent.

Three things - not sure why so many of you choose to criticize:
Officiating: There was nothing wrong with the officiating. There were disputed calls, but there will be in any hotly contested match. The UCLA bench was quite vocal about a couple out calls at the east end of the gym and the WA bench about a call on the sideline in the third game in which the line judge was screened but I couldn't tell whether they had legitimate beefs or not. I couldn't see those lines. I could see the south and west sidelines pretty well and I thought virtually every other call made sense. Huskies had a few mishandled balls, and, they in fact butchered those balls. Don't remember Spicer doing that. I'm also sure Margie Ray and Lara Donaldson will be surprised to find out they are part of "a gold old boy network."
Ball Control: UW passing was better than UCLA's but the Bruins certainly didn't "suck really bad." UCLA had a few rough spots as did the Huskies. I also thought McAfee was fine other than one short stretch where she struggled. Washington had 1 more reception error than UCLA.
Pac-10: Just compare the number of NCAA championships in all sports that the Pac-10 has won compared to any other conference. UCLA alone has 100.

The PAC 10 is CLEARLY the preeminent conference in all of collegiate sport and more importantly volleyball. UCLA's 100 titles are just the beginning, as Stanford and Southern Cal are second and third nationally. No other conference comes close.

Basketball- Tradition is definitley there with UCLA historically, Stanford historically and Arizona historically.... and this year most analysts claim the Pac-10 to be the toughest...and we will get probably 7 out of 10 teams into the tournament....

Pac 10 basketball this year will be amazing. UCLA, Wazzu, Stanford, Oregon, USC, Arizona will all be top 25. Cal and ASU could be too. Washington will be in its second rebuilding year, but will probably go NIT at least. Oregon State now has CJ Giles, they will improve.
And still, the pac10 has the most national championships in football and basketball anyways.

Washington will be in the upper half of the Pac this year and yes, even in football and basketball we still have the most titles. I don't even understand how people can argue that the Pac-10 isn't the best overall sports conference, bar none. The 3 California schools have just been too dominant throughout history and the rest of the Pac-10 schools pick up national titles in various sports. Even if in the past few years the Pac-10 hasn't been dominant in football and basketball, they always clean up in the other sports, even the ones no one pays attention to. Anyone want to take a guess who won the rowing title last year? Pac-10 is the best

^Washington won men's rowing by several lengths. USC won the women's title.
P.S. A few weeks ago the UW men beat the Russians! And our Coxwain is a girl!

This Husky team is pretty impressive. It may not be as good as the team that won it all a few years ago, but it is getting there. I would agree that they don't have as much firepower as Nebraska or Stanford, but they are close enough, and when you factor in their defense and serving you've got to think they've got a good shot to win the Pac-10 and even the Nat'l Championship.
