Without the Off-the-Net board, I won't be able to start a thread about "Hawaii Five-0" (I've finished Seasons 4 and 5 on DVD) or "Isis" (starring Joanna Cameron...meow).

I marked "Other" because I used to visit frequently when it was fun, light-hearted fluffy threads. When it became so bizarre and required one to search through the content, I stopped visiting so much. It doesn't need much moderation. It needs a few posters to stop being such jackasses. 50 threads about the same topic is just spamming. No one's asking them to stop posting, just to have the common courtesy to not keep creating new threads for topics already opened. I agree with these two posts. I go to Off The net less and less as time goes on but really enjoyed it at one point. I think that all these political posts should all be put in one thread because they are basically the same thing. If we did that I think more people would visit this board and post more in it.

good comment..
Can I ask a question...Romeo has only posted a little UNDER 500 times.. and I looked and tried to remember if and when he EVER posted anything off topic till now. I see you have over2,500 post so yo do post a lot more..so evidently you find some enjoyment and freedom to post somewhere.
With all my posting I stay away from Men and womens VB because I am /have been stereotyped as a evil white guy...and I don't want to bring misfortune to a team I have supported for over 10 years..in 1 manner or another.
I never claimed to be perfect but I would NEVER associate what ANYONE post here for entertainment as what any program represents... I think only liberals can justify that.
So part 2 of my question is where have all your post gone? and why didn't you post anything until this attempt to silence the minority discussion now?
Thanks..

You know for the first several years I did enjoy this forum but then Bill came and started his never ending insults and attacks on gay people. I tried to be civil but what was the point? He knew every time he made one of those attacks on gays he was insulting me but apparrantly felt that if he wasn't using my name that he wasn't insulting me. Ruffda has covered, and very well I might add, Bill's other antics.
If this gets me banned I'm fine with that, but the truth is. He is the biggest dumb a$$ i've ever encountered anywhere. The days of being nice to him were over long ago. He's a horrible, bitter old man who has nothing but this forum to vent his stupidity. I've rarely replied to his insane post but the problem is he destroys post that have nothing to do with politics.
He is an A$$ of huge proportions.

Thank you for your comment..
I did even post that I have been bigoted in my posting and even didn't realize it until someone pointed it out in a positive manner.
I don't agree with your lifestyle..but never have said anything approaching what you have just said...
Again it is politics..you support a party based upon that support of a certain lifestyle.. You cannot defend the current administration in the war, budget..freedom of speech..and many other areas that MORE Americans feel are more important than supporting a lifestyle.
Then the personal attacks..my worst is sheep..and baa..and I get warned and possibly banned?
I would accept an apology....
and it must be a thread topic starter..not obscured to be buried among cute nonsensical post.
For those who care ..click on his bio do a search back for his last 50 post..The guy attacks everything conservative..from Ann-Palin Notice the LIES OF TEXAS ARE UPON YOU..so every time he posted it was against BUSH....I don't care since I am against New York and most Democrats.he says he was not a DEMOCRAT ..yet really likes OBAMA, and attacks anything and everything REPUBLICAN.
Then look at the language he uses..the negativity of the post..to others..not on subject..I DON'T CARE..I have thicker skin.but don't ban me why this guy gets a free run in the political side..
and in 50 of his last post..he never posted about VB. Then acts indignant about our debate on gay marriage...get over it. playing the bigot card, the race card Can only carry your arguments so far.
so the debate goes both ways.. PLEASE DON'T REMOVE THE LAST POST and don't BAN HIM..

Let me get this right.
A thread is started about the hostility in the political forum and the repeated ramblings from certain posters. Then the thread turns into the very thing it is supposed to be addressing.
I personally have never been attacked, just my profession which I am fine with because I know the truth. I don't care what other people say about what I do. I have, however, seen people repeatedly attack each other. The tone, the backhanded comments, and rhetoric is disgusting. Both sides are guilty.
There are many intelligent, well read, articulate posters on this board. I would hate to see it deleted. Then there is a handful who can't post ANYTHING articulate. It reminds of my uncle who is so wrapped up in his politics, he is blind to anything else. I could take a republican platform, tellhim its from a democrat and he would say its liberal bull crap. He wouldnt even listen carefully enough to realize it couldnt possibly come from a republican point of view.
Let me make it VERY clear that it works the other way also. Politics is so far gone it is beyond repair. So much hate, name calling, and hypocrisy it makes it unbearable to listen.
There is a high chance I will be called out because I rarely post anything, or don't know how to argue my way out of a paper bag, or that I am a some kind of farm animal. It wasnt funny the first time. And it certainly isnt funny the 10,000th time.

This one is tame compared to some of your other posts but I assure you Bill I find it very insulting for you to compare my marriage to that of getting married to a tree. I only had to go back a couple weeks for that one. You posted numerous and much more crude comments about gays.

The timing of this thread is interesting.
I have decided I do not like the effect this forum has had on my experience of VolleyTalk in the last few months. As someone else suggested, I have come to believe the (degraded) level of discourse here is affecting the (lack of) civility by myself and other posters in the volleyball forums. It's too easy to bounce back and forth between the forums, escalating your level of aggression with each iteration. I have recently decided to cut back my participation here.
I find myself loading the thread list and instead of looking at the titles to decide if I want to participate, I, like Ms. "M", look at the colums of who started the thread and who made the last post. If I see either of two specific names, I don't even bother to shift my eyes to the left and find out what the thread is about, because those two people only have one thing they make all their comments about. When something is re-hashed that was already hash to begin with, why waste my time?
Back a couple years ago, I tried to reason politely and make common cause on issues where we could find agreement, but someone who insists on everything being "Us vs. Them" cannot even recognize or accept when you agree with them, so your efforts are devoured and evacuated. Without any hope for agreement or willingness to entertain the possibility of the other person having an edifying perspective, what is the point of talking other than to yell at each other? It's a high school football crowd chant of "We've got spirit yes we do, we've got spirit how 'bout you?" which, agonizingly, NEVER ENDS. Meanwhile, out on the field there's a game you're trying to follow.

I have never posted crude stuff about gays...about their agenda..YES.
It is not a personal thing as many here decided to make it..oh.. a farm animal..baa?
How demeaning...HOW THIN SKINNED.?
If you disagree with someones position ...you can only use the race card or prejudice card..so many times.
It is so typical of liberals who label any arguments as uninformed..nonsensical..bigoted .. raciest.
This can be used as learning moment.. agreeing to disagree does not make that other person a bad person...
I have learned and moved on..others KEEP REHASHING the past..because that's all they do...try and frame a person in an unguarded moment...or worst yet a STUPID moment that we all have...
Again I have never used such language to demean a person personally..you can go back through 3,8000 post..I have framed a debate to make someones point look bad..but THAT IS DEBATE and that is politics..Don't like it..?
Don't play.

Bill, I'm going to offer some advice. You, of course, are free to take it or leave it.
1) You need to stop assigning attributes to "all liberals". 2) You need to stop assuming people are Dems, liberals, progressives. 3) This "card" business is not only nonsense, it's insulting. 4) You need to stop making statements where you accuse people of "always" or "only" doing something. 5) Most important, I think, is the "don't play" comment. You need to understand that not everyone on here thinks this is a game. Some people don't want to engage in your debates at all. Some people may want to engage, but they don't think it's play. I suspect that you think people are playing with you who really aren't.
That's all. My intent is not to offend, just to let you know how I believe posts like the last one are seen by a lot of people.

I've made a decision on what to do that I think will satisfy partly all parties involved in this discussion.
It boils down to the fact that I need the "Off the Net" board for to keep the volleyball discussion as much on topic as possible (let's face it, that's impossible here).
So, I have separated the Political Ramblings section from Off the Net and moved the last few pages of political threads to that board.
Two basic rules: 1) if it's a political comment (regardless if it's the first post in a thread), it needs to go to Political Ramblings.
2) If it's anything non-volleyball and non-politics, then it goes to "Off the Net"
Let's see how this goes.
