It's about that time and it has already been speculated about on the other club thread.....what should the new rankings be and what teams could be flying under the radar this far? Or which teams are overrated?? Of course who knows when the actual rankings will come thru, but of course as soon as someone has the link, please add it!

I would say that Marquette and UW-Oshkosh will just switch spots. MSU will definitely move up since they defeated Illinois this past weekend. I haven't heard/read anything about the teams ranked #5 and beyond in the first rankings.
1. UW-Oshkosh 2. Marquette 3. Lakeland 4. Michigan State 5. Colorado 6. Illinois 7. Virginia Tech 8. Arizona State 9. Arizona 10. UC-Berekely
? That's a decent guess, but again, I don't know anything except from the midwest. Any opinions?

You know what would have been awesome.
If Oshkosh sent MU a valentine that said "You're still my #1."
Also, Lakeland is too high.

Funny, Feb. 15th rankings are up...just blank for D1 men though. Either the guy who does them is slacking again....or they will wait till after the MW10 qualifier for a better picture, they've done it before...I'm sure other tourneys are going on this weekend too.

Think we gotta take a good look at the actual level of play to decide this ranking.....especially since they are in cement for a month. VaTech should not be top ten, as they got handled at Loyola tournament a couple months ago.....and since when has ASU been making noise to get top ten rankings??? It's pretty obvious that this will prolly be a pretty low level year for NIRSA but let's atleast make sure teams in the top ten are the most solid teams (not streaky). 1. Oshkosh(till they get beat) 2. Marquette/MSU/Illinois? 5. winner of West coast tourney 6. Arizona/Colorado 8. Lakeland(knocked off Marquette at MW10, but didn't look close to #4-7 when playing Oshkosh 9. #2 at west coast tourney??? 10. Ohio State???(took 3rd at big ten, usually pretty disciplined team) And yes....there are a lot of question marks on my top ten...they're there for a reason....hopefully Indiana tournament will help solidify some worth teams of the top ten.

Sun nite....Nobody at Far Westerns stood out AT ALL. Everyone just mostly beat each other up. A horrendous bunch of B- play at best it seems. And some worse. Definite flashes of brilliant individual play, but that didn't even last very long in games. Things were so equal, unscheduled play in/crossover games had to be played to get in to Gold Bracket, and again into Silver Bracket.... One team would run offa good match...then their next match was awful, and another team who had a poor starting match, stepped it up. Lotta migraines among the coaching staffs and teams tonite I am sure!
Don't have final results of power pool, but no one there was any great shakes imho.
Teams there: Cal, Cal Poly I & II, Davis I & II, Sac State, Sonoma St, Oregon, UCLA, UCI, Westmont, Santa Clara, Chico State, two Davis alum squads to fill brackets (they were mostly the best consistent players), St Mary's, Holy Names(NAIA), Stanford, couple more I can't remember...(Fresno not there!).
So the west has 2 months to get things ironed out before Nationals. A number of team and coaching issues across the board.
Mini nccvl tourney in two weeks...hopefully a clearer picture will emerge....

So nothing definitive out west yet (with unknowns on the strength of Colorado and the Arizona and Utah schools). Marquette lost in three to Lakeland, but Lakeland is inconsistent as a young team. Oshkosh seems to be the team to beat at the moment. A big tournament this weekend at Indiana will help to clarify the midwest.

The Hoosier Illini Should be fun this weekend, lets hope all the teams are healthy and all their members are present. If not this could be a weekend where fans of good vball might not get to see what all the hype about the top teams is about.

Additional info - Mon noon Semi's at Far Westerns/Davis:
Holy Names (NAIA) defeats UCLA Santa Clara defeats UCSD
Finals: Holy Names vs Santa Clara Don't know results yet. I would bet HNC.
UCLA made it to Semis whenthey beat Davis alums as several could not hang around. They WILL beat some folks at Nationals... Santa Clara has already lost to a couple nccvl teams... We'll see how they do at mini tourney nccvl in 2 weeks.
UCSD good enough play at the end I have no clue if UCLA, Sta Clara, UCSD will keep winning as the season goes along...Stay tuned.

Yikes is right........where in the effing world did Maryland come from and what's happening with Marquette here fellas?
This is why I dont pay much attention to these polls at any given time cuz they dont represent how certain teams play......
Either way, the Hoosier Classic will defintely hash a few things out as to who dserves to be on top and who needs some improvement......
