I know of one who has seen Etzler play a couple of times and raves about her

This article lists Simone Roslon 5-10 OH/DS from Mira Costa (also same Surfside club team as Kaci Demaria) as committed to Stanford for indoor in 2026. With Spencer Etzler also coming in next year, I'm glad Hambly is recruiting more DS players given our weakness this year. Demaria and Joy Udoye are also average passers so I don't see them as 6-rotation players in college initially. I'm guessing Blyashov (if healthy) will be our 6-rotation OH once Rubin leaves but she can be a shaky passer too. For those who've seen Etzler play, do we think she's ready to step in as starting libero from Day 1 next year post-Oglivie? My understanding is that she didn't start at libero for her club team (granted they had a ton of DS talent). The other options are Cawa and Pringle who don't inspire a ton of confidence right now. We've been pretty spoiled with Oglivie/Hentz for the last 9 years. I'm really curious if Stanford is also recruiting Kaitlyn Nguyen for 2026- a top libero recruit and high academic kid who is still uncommitted I believe. www.cifstate.org/sports/girls_volleyball/notebook/9.20.24Etzler is an elite passer IMO with a very good volleyball IQ. I know someone who has seen her play and he he says she's definitely a better passer than Hentz was at the club/HS level, but not as good defensively, sort of on the level of Oglivie when she was at Iolani. The speed and movement of collegiate serves and how she handles the adjustment will determine whether she can become the heir apparent to our last two star L's. At last night's match against against NC St when Oglivie wasn't on the floor Cawa handled a couple of cross court rockets with ease. Cawa is good at picking up tips also. I really like her at the DS1 position. She needs to improve her passing but if Etzler and Cawa are in the back row together next year I think we as Stanford fans will be happy.

Good news about Hickman. What's her ranking? About the current DS's. If Cawa is no worse than Beaven, why not try Cawa out. Cawa is the better investment given she's a freshman. Beaven only has 2.5 more months with the team. I've seen her ranked as high as #10 in the 2026 class. Left handed OPPs who are 6'5" don't come along too often. I like her blocking technique in the videos I've seen. As an attacker she'll be decent to good projecting to the collegiate level. You know how it goes ... it all depends upon training/development and a lot of that will happen at Stanford. Watched some film on Hickman. I liked her. Very tall and long. Can't coach that. Pretty athletic for a girl that tall at that age. Tall skinny girls often get stronger as they age so you can see a nice upside. She isn't a Mullen level player yet but you can see the potential. I like her more than any hitter we have gotten since Rubin...

You probably are correct, she'll take a year to two years to really hit her stride as she develops a little more muscle and gains knowledge about the collegiate game. Blocking skills are very important for an OPPo and at her age those skills look pretty good. From a attack perspective most left handed OPPos can adjust to weaker sets and they see the block a littler better than their right-handed counterparts. All in all I'm pretty hopeful for her and Stanford -- just please avoid the injury bug.

Something I’ve noticed so far this year. I’ve seen more double contacts called this season than I have in the last 5 years, ironic no?

At least five WVB recruits were at the football game yesterday.

At least five WVB recruits were at the football game yesterday. Not sure that was a good look with 95 degree temps and the Card being manhandled by VT.

At least five WVB recruits were at the football game yesterday. And at Friday night's match (judging by IG). Beach recruits, too. Interesting question: Will Stanford's beach VB team win a national championship before the indoor team wins another?

She clearly penetrates the net and has pretty good hand placement. I also like her swing. It isn't that powerful but she has a good wrist snap and her are should get stronger. Also agree that lefty OPP can be a real weapon in OOS sets....

The increase in number of scholarships allowed hasn’t been approved yet. Hard to say committed when a scholarship might not be available

Stanford looked much steadier with Cawa on the court! She made some mistakes but for the most part, the team was able to bounce back from it. I'm glad Hambly is making changes in the backrow!! I would love to see yu at oppo and Harvey at Outside, tho Ipar is doing quite well and Rubin is a must on the outside...

Interesting...Yu at oppo. So Stanford runs a 6-2 in this scenario?
What do you think will happen when Blyashov comes back? Does she replace Kurt or Harvey?

Harvey on the left side would be dynamite on any iso set. What we don't know about is OOS balls which typically go to the left side hitter. How would Harvey handle those? Also Harvey's blocking is really weak, at least on the right side. Kurt can play on the right side definitely like she did with Fenerbache and as evidenced by her play in one rotation where she hits right. Kurt is a better blocker, but I haven't checked the numbers. Bly was slated to play left side, but not sure how she would look on the right. Based upon U19 and what I've seen in various warmups her blocking looks pretty good. If Bly is ready to go this weekend we might see her get some action because the opponents aren't that strong.
