Why not just wish him luck and applaud the man for wanting to be with his family? +1

Disgusted? Let me preface this by stating that my opinion has nothing to do with USA volleyball: Hugh McCutcheon may be one of the finest human beings I have come across. He cares about his family, his friends, and his career. it is my opinion that Hugh wanted to be with his family and his newborn son rather than travel the world and not be there for the first two years of that little boy's life. Have any of you considered that? I find it crude and obscene that anybody would denounce Hugh for leaving the WNT for a job that will allow him to raise his son and be with his family. Why not just wish him luck and applaud the man for wanting to be with his family? His family traveled with him. Hugh has done this before, he knew what he was getting himself into. He took the job to gain experience to be able to transition into the women's college game. That is the ONLY reason he took the WNT job. Now that he got a college HC job, he no longer has any use for the WNT. Say if Mike retired a couple of years ago would Hugh be on U Minn's short list? No. Hell Hugh wouldn't have been considered at all due to not having any experience coaching women's volleyball. If I was the member of the NT, I would feel used and really shafted.

True, but it is not like he did not know the commitment that was necessary at the National Team level.. he should have not started this Olympic Quadrennial since he really does put these ladies in a tough spot. Edit: Submitted post just after USAVolley16, did not mean to copy.

USAVolleyball16, do not even pretend to know why Hugh does anything... you know nothing.

Secondly, wiz and their child DID not travel to most of the tournaments... so another mistaken assumption.

Secondly, wiz and their child DID not travel to most of the tournaments... so another mistaken assumption. Regardless, he made a 4 year commitment to usav womans national team. He knows what the daily grind is all about. Using his family as an excuse is lame. He got a well paying job and he's done coaching the national team. Don't need any sugar coated excuses.

disgusted if this is true. Hugh showing his true character. You can't use the national team and throw them away when opportunity comes a knocking. It's the national team, not the Shroud of Turin. I'm not sure this is the great tragedy people are making it out to be. Sure, I would have loved for Hugh to stay on through the Olympics. But he's not, and everyone will get over it. I'm sure the players on the WNT are disappointed. But they'll get over it, too.

The problem I have is that he asked his players to commit to him and they did now he up and leaves when something , more money, arrives. Greed is a great thing to teach his family.

The players committed for the chance to represent the United States of America, regardless of who the coach is.

The players committed for the chance to represent the United States of America, regardless of who the coach is. But they bought into HUGH'S system, which if they did well, would give them the chance to represent their country.

You're saying that's the ONLY motivation here? C'mon. And when did "buying into his system" become such a big deal? These are world class athletes. I think they'll be able to adjust.
