All set to watch the US-DOM volleyball match at 11am - NBC even said it was coming on. What do we get here on the west coast? ? Springboard diving!!!! NBC is apparently delaying the US-DOM volleyball game three hours (2pm) on the west coast (2 hours in the Central time zone, I presume). GGGGRRRRRR!!!!!!!That is EXACTLY why I started this thread!!!

That is EXACTLY why I started this thread!!! We watched it live in Central time. "Live" is live in the Eastern and Central time zones. In the Pacific and Mountain zones, it is live, if you're lucky, or delayed, if you're not, the latter by an entirely uncertain amount of time (two hours on the west coast today, three hours previously), all without notice or explanation, depending on the whim of whoever is holding the string of NBC's yo-yo. Personally, I think it was a bait and switch to get more viewers for springboard diving...

The USA v. Russia men's indoor match was scheduled to air at 11:30AM when I went to bed at 3AM. I woke up at 10:15AM to a text from a friend telling me how great the match was. They can at least not change the schedule last minute. We'll see what happens with tomorrow's USA women's match. I don't know where you live, but the match was on NBC at 10:15 am PDT. I thought it was being shown live, but if was delayed for west coast viewers it didn't take a whole lot of effort to ignore your texts if didn't want to know the results. As for going to bed at 3 am, you must be a lot younger than me. I think that you misunderstood my last post. The TV listing for my area said that the match would be aired at 11:30AM the previous night. The match ended up being aired at 9:30AM or so instead.

USA - Italy Men's game being delayed in the Pacific (and Mountain) zones, by some arbitrary and capricious amount of time that is yet to be determined.

On the west coast, "live" US-KOR women's volleyball is being delayed, while Dressage is being covered live on MSNBC. Don't mess with the horse folks, I guess. They're rich; volleyball folks, not so much.
As a result, on the west coast, volleyball will be opposite the live women's soccer final. On the east coast, folks can watch both; on the west coast we have to choose - maybe we can catch the end of the soccer game.

Best possible scenario: live on-line AND taped for prime-time.
OK. They could have shown it live on TV and taped in prime time, but that's never going to happen, for any sport.

NBC Bay Area's website STILL says that it is scheduled for 9-10:45AM (right now). This is the second time I've altered my work schedule to watch the TV airing of a match, only to have it moved to some other time without notice.

Reasonably good scenario: NBC airs the match on TV in the same time slot as when they tell viewers that they will air it on TV listings.

That would be nice. OTOH, I think part of the problem with their coverage has been their inflexibility. They stick to what they have planned, no matter what else is going on.
That they've decided to show this in Prime Time is a good thing, no matter how much it has inconvenienced some of us. This is exactly what the sport needs -- exposure.

Yes, it's interesting to notice the events they've consistently shown in prime time: gymnastics, swimming, track and both beach and indoor volleyball. I'd say vb has gotten very fair coverage.

The archers, fencers, field hockey players, team handball players etc. must think we are a bunch of whiners, because our sports get far more coverage than theirs.

OK. They could have shown it live on TV and taped in prime time, but that's never going to happen, for any sport. They did it with the semi-finals for women's platform diving tonight - I saw most of it earlier in the day (not sure if they chopped the end of it). They didn't show the other semi-final in volleyball at all today - it is airing after 12:35am, on the west coast anyway. Too late for me (I was up at 7am this morning).
