Hugh just said that he has confidence on CT to lead the team, and that is why he selected her.

Hugh just said that they think it's just a strain and not a tear, but they won't know for sure until after they run the tests, so keep your fingers crossed.

In a question for those who follow international volleyball, are our left sides not great terminators at this level, or is it more that it is just really, really hard for lefts to score against this type of competition? I know that great all around skills are essential here, but it seems as if Hooker is really the offense a lot of the time. Maybe, but their lefts are even less capable of terminating than ours. Probably someone else said this, but lefts are responsible for bailing out bad passes/digs typically. Their numbers suffer. Also, most middles close better to their right than left. Karch once said that he would have been toast if he had to face good two-person blocks all the time. Opposites often are the best natural hitters/athletes on their teams. Hooker is an offensive juggernaut!

I'm panicking. Berg is our fearless leader. She is what makes this team go.... I'm praying she can come back for semis (if we beat DOM).

Courtney did well. She is determined and will get it down. Larson as a DS. She needs to be on the floor all the time. But what is up with her, she is playing kind of reserve like. USA is tough and they will continue to be so.

Okay, back after having shut down my PC due to a storm.
I didn't think there was really any drop-off after Thompson came in, but we were cruising by that point, anyway. I was shocked that the commentators even suggested bringing Berg in after a few points if she was okay. Why? She came out for a reason. Don't risk anything even if it wasn't really anything.
But, even so... really hope she's all right and that a day of rest does her well for the match vs the DR.

I was shocked that the commentators even suggested bringing Berg in after a few points if she was okay. Why? Because that's the kind of sacrificial hunger games drama their NBC overlords love. The best thing that has happened for women's gymnastics marketing in the last 20 years is Keri Strug.

CT was terrific. As mentioned, her setting to the left OH's was excellent, and she made good, safe decisions throughout. She would have had a couple of defensive saves also if Logan hadn't been overplaying her on block coverage. This team could win gold with Thompson, but who wants to go into the semi and final with one setter?

PSU fans after Berg injury: "I told you so!" UW fans after today's match: "No, I told YOU so!"
Who will get told in the end?

Here's hoping Berg is okay.
Thompson is pretty durable, however - I don't believe she's ever been injured (at least enough to be replaced). If Berg can't go, the backup setters will be Thom and Miyashiro.

The issue certainly isnt her setting ability or leadership.
