Meh, those gold medals are made out of silver anyway.
Thank you Team USA. You are always gold no matter what finish. Yeah I know, kumbaya. Stay positive Team USA fans. The ladies still did great.
At least Brazil lost to Mexico in men's soccer. They've never gotten an Olympic Gold either.
Yeah yeah, I know. This is volleyball. Who cares about soccer.

Time to train glass or a blocking setter. I've been on this board for many years saying Berg was not good enough. We have the best front line in volleyball. Now let's get some setting and defense.

We have "the best front line in volleyball" because we've had an awesome setter to get the ball to them. You may have heard of her; her name is Lindsey Berg. Did the gold medal winners have a blocking setter? The bronze? The 4th place team? Sure, it would be great to have a setter as good as Berg who also happened to be 6'3", but that has nothing to do with this match, this team, this last four years.

Eh, that doesn't really make me feel any better. lol Brazil has World Cup titles, and for soccer, the World Cup > the Olympics. In volleyball, not so much. It is depressing to me that the USA cannot win gold in the Olympics in a sport it invented.

Berg is not good. I watched this match with some college players who asked me why our setter was fat and out of shape! That was their first impression! She made so many serving, location, and defensive errors, I couldn't defend her. Even her demeanor was poor when her hitters needed it most. I honestly wouldn't have her set a NCAA top 15 team.

Shame. on. them. If I were you, I'd be teaching those girls who probably won't ever see the USA Volleyball training gym front doors a little lesson about not being such terrible people. For their comments to even merit attention they would know how great of a leader and competent setter Berg is. Everyone has their off days, it just so happens that world-class players sometimes have them on the biggest stages.

What a tacky post from a bitter poster. At least Fabi showed Nicole Davis what is required of a person wearing a different-colored jersey. Pretty interesting reading the whole thread, from the "smackdown" and "beatdown" comments at the beginning to the trashing of McCutcheon and the players after the loss. And wow, making fun of Fabi's personal appearance.

Everyone has their off days, it just so happens that world-class players sometimes have them on the biggest stages. He said college players. Lindsay Berg left the U when they were in 4th grade, and even if they are up until 3am they are not watching Team USA in "some Asian tournament." The American public doesn't see this team, and doesn't know who they are except for the image they project in these 2 weeks. Berg's level of play never stood out. We know she's playing on one leg and is lucky to have made it all the way through the quad but I doubt more then a handful of college players have any idea about that stuff. So i didn't watch the scores and caught it in primetime for THAT? I'm pissed at NBC. They can't show it live so they can make us sit through 1 hour of history channel, and then rush us out the door so we can find out that Shakespear is English!?! They showed about 20 points from the gold medal match, all after 11pm, when they spent 2 weeks building a mid-day audience. And the whole thing is "and after winning that first set that you saw, the US lost the next two sets and we take you to the 4th set." Thats awful on a several levels. ARGH!

Typical Baldy... Btw, your college players sounds like wonderful young ladies. I'm slightly perplexed at how a college vb player would not know who Lindsey Berg is. Have they ever heard of Logan Tom or is that too old school...? COACHES, expose your players to high level volleyball! They should know the players on our Olympic team! Ok, I'm done ranting.

Well, the smackdown/beatdown comments at the beginning of the thread were completely accurate. Would you characterize set 1 as anything else? I think that many of those comments were made by a different group of people than the ones who started popping up on page 32 to air out their pet grudges

You're pathetic. Lurking in the shadows while Berg guided the team to several victories and now coming out with your "I told you so" when they had their only loss. A tall blocking setter could not have changed the outcome of this match.

And I didn't mean it that way. It's just that I read this whole thread in one go and I could really see the tone of the posts change with each page.
